What if you have an older version that does not a pivot bar, etc. that allows a simple slip in reattachment. I have one from 1996.

Exactly this! I have an older version that doesn't allow just to slip and engage, I took it apart for cleaning, now it doesn't go back into the shoes for proper reattachment 😢

Hi Most of the time the older windows have a block and tackle system with a cord or string. If that is broken you would need to replace the system in the jamb liner

I tilt the window to 90 degrees but neither side pin seems to want to pop out of the tensioner. Any suggestions? Obviously I don't want to force any thing. Thanks for any suggestions.

If you are at exactly 90 degrees it should pop out. Sometimes if the window is installed too tight it can be difficult to pop up. However you should be able to with your hand give it a little shove and make it come out of the shoe. I hope this helps.

Can you post a picture? There may be a cover that just snaps off to reveal the shoe. It is also possible your window design does not have exactly what we showed in this video

Could be a number of reasons. Most likely the window is out of the shoe it needs to sit in. Try and tilt window in and see if it is out of the groove it needs to sit in.

And how do you remove the upper window. My son just broke the upper one😢

Check the top of the window sash. Hopefully there are tilt latches. You can tilt it in just like the lower sash and remove it. It should work the same way as the lower sash.
