Thank you, Mr. Hal, for this video. Two professionals, respecting and learning from each other. In Germany we've learned in the last months from our media, that whites and blacks in the US don't get along anymore. Remembering Minnesota, for instance. But you and Mr. Wilbur show how to do it the right way. I'm just a parcel deliverer in Germany, we are getting similar "circumstances" in our country, in my profession, young guys imigrating from Arabia, Africa and poor Southern European countries. You show how do it! I'll try my best. Thumbs up!

Those old pans have more moves than a whorehouse on Friday night! Pick them up, crib the pan, let it down, chain it up. We had safety blocks to put over the steering rods to keep it from twisting. The load binders were an excellent idea! I have to admit that is the first time I have seen a pan behind a wrecker. I'm just as glad as you are that those old tires held up for the trip. Getting dead pans on a lowboy sucks. I spent three years in Sumter with the Air Force and had a house on Cherokee Street. I live in the upstate now above Spartanburg. Certainly wasn't a 39' long Freightliner towing a Volkswagen bus there 😁. But that same truck moved a few of those over it's lifetime. They deemed it cheaper/faster to have him move them rather than spend a fortune on and deal with the hassle of the permits. It wasn't easy for him, though. There are some relatively short but severe grades in that area, and even while being tied into the machine's brakes, he had to go down some hills in the lowest hole he had. The truck had a (massive) two range rear axle, 3 range Brownie (that also drove the winch), and a 15 speed transmission. Pull the ass out of a tornado if he had the traction for it, at 1.2 mph ... a large part of why he could move things with that single truck that sent 3 of the big city outfit's rigs home broken. That rig has been long out to pasture now, I do miss seeing/hearing it.

If you should get asked to move another one of these scrapers, you should load it onto a Landoll trailer or low-loader. Much easier to transport that way. You made the mistake of hooking the chain around part of the chain-driven paddle blades assembly that scrapes loosened dirt into the back of the scraper, which is the pan part you referred to in the description. An easy enough mistake to make, no biggie. What you were looking at chaining up was actually the steering arm of that scraper. These scrapers are pretty slow and cumbersome beasts, usually if they needed to be doing work with them, a bulldozer would push behind on the rear of the machine to make the whole operation smoother and faster. They are not often seen anymore as they have become obsolete due to newer technology such as excavators, channel diggers, large bladed bulldozers, graders, and suchlike. This ancient relic should probably be cleaned up and donated to a museum. Only thing a scrapper would give you is an honest price on the metal content remaining in it. Waste of a perfectly good museum exhibit, in my opinion.
@DarkVoidIII4 жыл бұрын
One other thing: As equipment like this gets older with age, there is more metal fatigue in them. This causes them to wear and tear faster than brand new equipment.
@SumterWrecker4 жыл бұрын

@Sumter Wrecker would it not have been easier to pin the swivel on the wheel lift than to try and chain the pivot on the machine? I've not been around too many big wreckers, so I don't know. Any way you look at it, that's an impressive recovery.

The junkyarddawg not sure what you mean by pin the swivel but always open to suggestions. Thanks for watching and stay safe
@loganpark79933 жыл бұрын
I thought about that too but the 2 issues would be the hydraulics fighting the pivot and the angle of the pivot is on a different plane with the front up that high.
