This tutorial demonstrates how to scan and create a pattern from a book or image. By working this way, designers can more easily translate paper pattern making into 3D.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm just beginning to explore 3D modelling and this tutorial was extremely helpful - especially as the narrator explained everything she was doing. It really helped a beginner like me understand why she did all the little quirky things like changing the layer to 1 and then back to 0. Thanks again!

These tutorials are invaluable! After a day of playing around with the software I can confidently say is NOT INTUITIVE AT ALL! I literally haven't been able to do anything and the written manual is not helpful. As a side note why isn't the option to click and drag with a trackpad available? Or to use the keyboard to access the menus hidden in the right click? Without these options it's a really frustrating experience on a laptop (the click buttons on my laptop gave up a long time ago and so far this has been the only software where this is a problem, yes this is a very specific problem but it shouldn't be)

Hello! There is a Beginners guide to CLO series that we designed to get people started. If you watch these videos in order is should help you out. The Video in Part 1 Lesson 2 Explains User Settings. This is where you can go to the view controls section and change navigation settings for a track pad, you can customize all navigation controls here. While you can use CLO on a trackpad, learning with a regular 3 button mouse is recommended as the easiest. Good luck! kzbin.info/aero/PLqL8Ymi3Z68Dqra76a_j0Y_WCcD5WSq4J

Hi, I am testing the accuracy of getting digital patterns through this method however I have to admit it has still a lot of limitations. First of all, the scaling process can be quite tricky and time consuming as done via mouse mainly (even though you mentioned that this can be helped by using keyboard to change measurements by using transform texture functionality. Coming back to scaling with the mouse by pulling arrows at diagonal line, many times the patterns size is off as either bigger than reference line/box or smaller and even if you finally manage to match with the reference line, i have checked the accuracy of scale of the rest of the lines (by comparing the actual measurements of drawing versus what Clo tells me are the measurements), are still off by a few mms in some cases. I guess is this is coming from the way picture has been taken? If there is a slight angle and pattern doesnt lay 100% flat vs. camera, you may have a measurement deviation? In addition, I have a question regarding helping out the scaling through by manipulating measurements of texture using the keyboard which you explain in min 1.46 of this video. You freely changed the measurement in texture transformation so you can make the pattern fit with reference line but by doing this, are you distorting the original pattern size? I see you activated the option "lock aspect ratio", is this that this option can help you maintain the height/width ratio despite the changes in the measurement that you are applying to make pattern fit? Final question, if you upload a fully scanned pattern to clo3d, do you still have to go through the scaling process or can this be skipped as pattern is supposed to have actual size already? Please let me know. Thanks in advance for your response!

I have read through this a couple times. You ask a couple questions, but I am not really sure what solution you are looking for. This techniques gets you a pattern shape, edits can be made at any stage whether it is the drawing of the internal lines, after you've cut the pattern out or even when the pieces have been sewn or draped.

We stress the ability to create your own patterns in CLO. You can also modify the 2 TShirts in the Library to create a large number of other items.

I'm stuck at how to import the pattern so it shows up as seen on the left/3D window. (tiled and small) when I imported the scan, it shows up as a fabric and very large. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong
@CLO3D3 жыл бұрын
If you are importing a SCAN it will come in as an image. You need to import a DXF pattern.

@@CLO3D hi, may I ask how do we import a DXF pattern? Because I'm doing a scan from the book as the photo file. Also, when I create the reference line, it zooms out together with the pattern, how do I fix it?. Thank you very much

Hi. We will keep this in mind for future tutorials like this. If you do find it easier you can trace Patterns in Ai and as long as all of your shapes are closed you can import them into CLO this way as well
