If you want the stock at current price go for covered calls if you want in the stock but want in at a lower strike and you see the strike is available then sell a put on it you dont mind owning the shares at that price you get to collect premium from a stock you dont even own too.

@AJK it means the volatility is high, which means the price can go up or down in large sums. It can go up $10 just as easily as it can loose $10. But the other part of it is that it eats away at the price of the premium which is what you want if you’re selling puts. You want a high delta if you’re buying Calls that way the theta doesn’t eat much from the premium. High theta for selling options and high delta for buying options.

I'm going to be completely honest. There are a ton of big name youtubers and others pushing money making stock videos, and the first video I ever watched of your was your 1hr+ options part 1 video. My bullshit detector finally caught a break. I sat down with a cup of coffee, pen, and pad. I took notes and paused for all the questions. This lesson too. Your main goal here is to educate and I love that. I have a little stock groupchat I created after watching your videos and our whole purpose is to learn and grow together and to educate to the point where people can make their own decisions. I've pushed your videos to all of them and they thank me for it. You have been nothing but inciteful, educational, and helpful in every possible way. Only need a few hundred bucks to sell to open options really, but the hard part about that is there isnt a whole ton of companies price in the 1-10$ range that anyone really wants to hold onto for a long period of time. I found selling cash secured puts on cheaper stocks like the 3-10$ range provides a nice % return for how much collateral is held up and it allows me to have the opportunity to get in the stock for a price that I like. For instance QLGN is at 3.30 I sold a 2.5 jan 15 2021 put on it for .35 premium I dont mind owning the shares at 2.50 I was planning on buying them right about at current price but just a bit lower around the 3.15 range id feel more comfortable but 2.5 would be even better although if it does drop that much I may not want the shares at that price so in general Im hoping not to own shares and for it to expire worthless but just saying for how much collateral I put up and how much premium I get to take in and in a pretty short amount of time is great for smaller accounts to not only make a little money but your going to learn a ton actually doing the trades and it helps alot that your risk is really limited and you wont be loosing your whole account to one trade.

Hasn’t someone already bought your put contract that you originally listed and aren’t you liable to fulfill it if they decide to exercise? In essence, who ends up having to fulfill the order if the person who originally bought your put decides to exercise? Sorry I know that’s a mouthful and hope that was clear.

This is where I might use some indicators and depends on how far it moved and the volatility of the underlying. If it looks unlikely to reach that strike again, I'll lower it, usually to a strike at 70% range chance of profit, but high IV options don't require much adjusting. Let me say that again, YOU DO NOT LOSE MONEY WHEN THE PRICE DROPS. It looks like it. You'll see a -$amount. You still have the same amount of shares. They may be worth less, but you haven't lost money until you get rid of them. Just sell covered calls until the price comes back up (remember you have the same amount of shares) and sell your covered call above your cost of ownership. Another way of viewing covered calls or cash secured puts is that a covered call is kind of like a stand limit order to sell your shares at the strike price you choose but with the possibility of making money on the limit order if it doesn't execute. Cash secured puts are limit to buy orders where if you don't execute you get paid but if you execute you own the shares you put the limit order to buy in at the strike price.

Is this the best way to enter a position if you were already planning to do so? Seems like a win win. If I’m planning to enter ABC stock, might as well go this route, and sell the put with a strike price at the desired entry point. If it gets assigned, cool I was already planning to get a position. If not, we made money off the premium!

Love cash secure puts, it sometimes allow you to get the stocks below the market cost! This happens when you sold your put at higher cost in days prior but on the expiration day the put loses value due to rise in stock value but the strike price is still in the money then you get to be assigned stocks at lower than market cost to you.

In a Cashed Secured Put scenario, the buyer of the Put already holds the underlying assets? Does the buyer already own 100 shares that will be sold to the seller at the strike price if she decides to exercise the option? Otherwise, who sells the 100 shares to the seller at the strike price when the option is in the money?
@Studiodevs3 жыл бұрын
That’s my problem ... I only do covered calls but I tried to do a put for fun and even though I had 100 shares it didn’t say I had a contract to sell but I had one to sell a call? Idk
@nickyy93643 жыл бұрын
The buyer purchases the underlying securities at market price and resells them to the put writer at the strike price.
@nickyy93643 жыл бұрын
@@Studiodevs In a covered call the buyer of the options purchases 100 shares of stock from the writer. So, the writer can own 100 shares and write a contract without any collateral. This does not work with a put because the writer is BUYING 100 shares from the buyer of the contract who purchased 100 shares at market value.

Great video. With the Robinhood example, one thing I didn't understand is why you Rolled your Put from $25 from $24? I didn't see any advantages of Rolling the Put from $25 to $24. You still collected $165 in Premium & Expiry Date is still the same if you had directly got at $24. why 2 transactions when 1 transaction would have given you what you wanted?

Hey Adam, appreciate your videos. I’ve learned quite a bit from them over the last month. I have several questions that probably involve foundational principals for options buying and selling. Feel like I need to understand the behind the scenes activity. 1.) When you sell to open, it’s any Joe Blow like me that is buying correct? 2.) Once I (Joe Blow) own your option contract and the value of that contract goes up in price and I sell it. Is it another trader that is buying that? 3.) If you want to roll it or buy to close your original contract, you would not necessarily be able to do that instantly would you? It would require whoever is holding it to sell? 4.) As the writer of that contract, do you get first option to purchase to close? 5.) Once you do buy to close, does your collateral instantly return to your account? 6.) If you get exercised, you are required to buy the stock at the strike price. Who forces that? The brokerage? What is there interest in that? How does that exchange work? 7.) Would you recommend this for larger accounts only? Feel like maybe you could make more with day trades or buying and selling options? 8.) As an example; I have purchased an option contract for .50 and it raises in value the next day to .89 and I sell. Can you explain where that contract is going and how that is affecting the “writer” of it through it’s process? I know it’s a hefty list of questions but I have been trading options for about a month and really enjoy it. Just feel like I should understand the mechanics of them. Also, I’ve really appreciated the actual purchase of contracts to show how to do it. For me as a beginner, that’s what I was looking for to give me the courage to click the buy button for the first time. I think the more experienced you become at something the more difficult it becomes to remember how inexperienced you once felt and the basic questions people have. One thing I’d love to see is a time lapse video of a trade that gets bought to close. Thanks Ronnie

Let’s say you buy cash-secured put on snap and the strike price at $25 per 100 shares. Later on, toward the expiration date, your contact gets exercised. Then you get assigned 100 shares buying it at $2,500 for the 100 shares. You’ve mentioned the rollover strategy are you able to do the same with writing covered calls? Just continuing collecting premium also with writing covered calls further in expectation date.
@spenceranderson74833 жыл бұрын
Could you clarify your question? Here’s the answer to what I think you are asking. After getting assigned you can sell covered calls on the shares you were assigned. You can also roll call options similar to puts by buying to close and then picking a different expiration and keep or change the strike price the same as with a put.

What would you say the percentage chance is if someone sells a put a month out at a strike of 5000 current stock level is 6000 if the stock reaches say 4500 2 weeks into the trade what is the chance it will get exercised and you will have to buy the shares? Most people think as long as the strike is above 5000 at expiration you will receive the premium but I'm under the assumption you can get exercised anytime the strike is under 5000 even if its before expiration which is correct? Have you ever been exercised and had to buy the stocks before the expiration date?
