Can we please do a video on a dog that is completely disinterested in learning anything? I can't find the prize food or the prize toy that really gets him going. He just wants to play. I'm kind of frustrated, because I had no problem teaching my other dogs all tricks and behaviors, but this sweet boy I recently adopted just has no interest in doing anything. His previous owners just taught him sit. Please help.

Something this guy was struggeling with, which I noticed many people do. Is the timing when to award. Timing, and knowing what behaviour to award / correct. And not waiting for the absolute perfect time, you want your dog to stay, immidietaly when the dog ignored the distraction BAM award. This is why dog training can be quiet tricky if not very experienced. But you know, practise make it perfect. Superb video and a great way of teaching others. I would however use a correction little bit more, maybe 2 or 3 times on this video, then award. But we all have our methods!: )

@@RavenTheLabrador He did, but I noticed that alot of people do not get his points because for Zac it's so obvious that he's not expressing it clear enough for people who have no idea. For people who's not experienced don't realy understand exactly what he's doing. They can copy what he's doing but without a understanding it will be very hard to do it right with their own dogs. I just thought to explain it more thouroughly. And he did not say everything I just wrote ;)

Please help! A friend got a large shelter puppy. He's super sweet but did high strung, he chases, destroys, nips and leaves scratches when trying to 'play' and chases other dogs and animals relentlessly despite trying to exercise him frequently, he will not listen or behave and could be a danger by accident, leaving no choice but to return to shelter. He's possibly between 1 and 2 yrs old, about 75 lbs of muscle, can jump 5-6 feet up w his height also working for him. How would you get such a completely distracted wild dog to calm down, behave, not be a threat to others?

I know this has nothing to do with this particular video but I just got a new puppy and I am crate training her. I give her treats when she goes in there to make it inviting. But she now starts to whine at night or when she knows I'm home. Now when I get home from work my goal is to let her out but I dont want her to associate her whining as a tactic to be let out of her cage. But it's hard because she is consistent or I try to get there as quick as possible so she doesn't have the chance to whine. I tried to get her to associate whining with potty breaks only but this turned into her whining every five seconds to just be let out. I recently moved her to another room and I believe she thinks I am gone, so she will whine for like 2-5 minutes and then stop because she thinks I have left for the day. I know this won't last long because she will soon realize that I am just in another room. Does anyone have any advice?

Dog-attention training is in reality HUMAN-TRAINING training. Meaning you need to train the OWNER on how to properly TRAIN the dog. This owner, for example has a very slow reward-speed & overall slow response speed. And by very slow I mean yes, that extra second he waits is part of the problem. The call for dog's attention and the REWARD for dog attention needs to be in the speed of light. Literally. Simply because after 1 second has already passed, the dog no longer understands what it is being rewarded for. Only with much repetition does the dog's memory of previously learned lessons stick on the long run. But during the initial on-going training of NEW commands, the dog begins to understand when the correct action is immediately rewarded. When people I try to help ask me why their training isn't working, I ask for a demonstration & when I see it I tell them "you took too long. That 1 brief second you waited has to be eliminated". And as they start to react in the speed of light, they always see the difference. My advice is "Don't pause. Don't delay. Don't even think. Just REWARD. And when you think you're rewarding ( verbal praise, physical touching & treat-/toy-giving) do it even faster. Again & again.... And again & again. Until it sticks.

Super helpful!! We just rescued a pittie and he is so well behaved, but gets distracted by dogs very easily. We worked with him today at a race with over 400 people and he listened well and followed cues from us, but there were no other dogs there. Our problem is when other dogs are involved, getting him to listen to us while walking or in the vet hospital is difficult and near impossible because he loves other dogs. Today I removed him from the situation at the vet hospital lobby and calmed him down, only re-entering when he was relaxed. Then we did “leave it” and “look at me” from the get go. He did much better the second try, but I think I’m going to have to bring a squeaky toy with me on walks because he’s motivated by those as much as treats! Loving your videos. They’ve been so helpful on our training journey (a short four days, but still lol)!

Potato Corn get him to be used to listening to you. Have some treats ready, put one in your hand and move it close to his face to get his attention. Once his attention is on the treat, get him to sit, look at you, then give him the treat. Do this many times so he gets used to listening to you! The goal is to reward him for paying attention to you instead of other distractions.

@@cas6648 I'll try that soon, but he gets too distracted, I've tried to move the treat to his nose and everything, but he just moves or bites my hand, his leash is almost ripped.. im trying to teach him to walk without a leash, but im scared he will jump on strangers and annoy dogs, and then get hit by a car.. because he is a 5 month old Bichon havanese mix...

Potato Corn get him something really tasty, and keep tempting him with it but don’t give it to him when he moves or bites your hand. When you have his attention, stand upright with the treat in your hand but far away enough that he can’t bite it. If he runs off repeat the same thing (wave the treat in front of his nose) till he sits. Get him to sit and ONLY give the treat to him when he is calm and sitting still and looking at you, not the treat. He has to seek your approval. My puppy never gets his food or treats if he isn’t sitting or lying down. It can be harder when you’re outside with a lot of distractions but keep trying. Practice in a place without any distractions first. You can’t expect a dog to listen to you outdoors if he doesn’t listen to you indoors. Don’t let him walk without a leash if he can’t even learn to walk with one. It’s really dangerous. Put the leash on him just before you go out for your walks, let him associate the leash with going out. Distract him whenever he tries to bite the leash. You can try moving and he has to move with you. Have a lot of treats ready to distract him with until he can behave himself. But make sure you’re not rewarding him for being mischievous. Reward him only when he’s calm and sitting down. That was really long, I hope some of it helps.
