I have to disagree with your summation of Grimmel. There's one scene in the movie where he tells Hiccup that like him, he found a nightfury as a boy, except he chose to kill it. And he did it for the glory, to be praised by his village. It's a perfect reflection of who Hiccup could have become if he had chosen to kill Toothless instead of spare him. Everything about Grimmel is a dark reflection of Hiccup--even down to the fact that they both have the same body type. Drago was none of those things. He wasn't anything like Hiccup--if anything, Drago was a dark reflection of Stoik.

I agree... some what..... b'coz he set up the delivery of his story to say "I killed it, then I was praised." For anyone living in fear of dragons, I think they when in the moment just care about self preservation, *then* he got praise for his bravery to face his fears instead of getting killed. Too, Fandom website is untrustworthy. From one httyd fan to another, the site just has a lot of made up, ignorant, wrong conclusions even on things I agree w/.😊😊 *Also, none of this is to say I side with Grimmel, I’m just explaining his character, and helping inform ppl.* 😊 Grimmel must’ve been one of those things where Deblois said “It seems on the nose” to, b’coz there was Grimmel’s whole backstory posted some time early 2019 that almost no one remembers, (detailed on swangrisly ‘s Insta feed and grimmelsgirl ‘s Tumblr). I know there are many many ppl that take surface level understanding of Grimmel and leave it at that, so I don’t blame you.😊 Thinking that he just hates dragons and just thinks humans are “superior” is understandable. (Sorry this is long). Grimmel actually loved ppl. He's in my mind the yin of Valka’s yang. Similarly to how she dedicated her life to freeing dragons, doesn’t care if ppl are harmed in the process, & developed a resentment to humans for hurting dragons, Grimmel dedicated his life to destroying the thing that hurt his ppl, never knew of dragons’ good side, & developing resentment to dragons for presumably plaguing humanity. In what I was reading, he loved the ppl around him & was horrified to find that ppl befriended dragons b’coz… well, approaching it w/ the dragons- harm- ppl mentality, it looks like they are protecting/being a destructive force. Even tho I don’t side w/ Grimmel, he is understandable. In short, he’s a little misguided, as anyone can be. And as much as Grimmel isn’t meant to be sympathized w/, anyone can be Grimmel, (as much as they think he is pure evil).🤭🤭

@@racheljackson4428 Totally agree. This is something that animation studios should acknowledge. Blue Sky, however, just ignores this concept and continues to make Ice Age movies, where the writing gets weaker every time. Shrek has already had a perfect happily ever after. Hope they don't pull a sequel out of nowhere for Shrek, unless they go down the prequel route with one of their other characters, like they did with Puss in Boots.

Httyd3 is overall my very favorite of the three. All the antagonists are underrated. They must’ve been one of those things where Deblois said “It seems on the nose” to, b'coz Grimmel was an enigma and underdeveloped. (Sorry this is long) I know there are many many ppl that take surface level understanding of Grimmel and leave it at that, so I don’t blame yall,😊 b’coz there was a whole backstory posted som time early 2019 that almost nobody heard of, (detailed on swangrisly ‘s Insta feed and grimmelsgirl ‘s Tumblr). Thinking that he's just hateful and “superior” is understandable but wrong. *Also, none of this is to say I side with Grimmel, I’m just explaining his character, and helping inform ppl.* 😊 Grimmel actually loved ppl. He is in my mind the yin of Valka’s yang. Similarly to how she dedicated her life to freeing dragons, doesn’t care if ppl are harmed in the process, and developed a resentment to humans for hurting dragons, Grimmel dedicated his life to destroying the thing that hurt his ppl, never knew of dragons’ good side, and developing resentment to dragons for presumably plaguing humanity. In what I was reading, he loved the ppl around him and was horrified to find that ppl befriended dragons b’coz… well, approaching it w/ the dragons- harm- ppl mentality, it looks like they are protecting/being a destructive force. Even tho I don’t side w/ Grimmel, he is understandable. In short, he’s a little misguided, as anyone can be. And as much as Grimmel isn’t meant to be sympathized w/, anyone can be Grimmel, (as much as they think he is pure evil).🤭🤭

Grimmel and Hiccup both stem from in the same situation; they were both young Vikings who shot down a night fury in their respective villages. Their characters are the direct result of the decision they made to either kill the night fury or to set it free. They're two sides of the same coin

The villain being weak definitely is a detriment in this one, but overall, I was happy with this finale to the franchise.
@sebastianengelsman72552 жыл бұрын
When I first saw the last film instead of being happy or exhilarated, I was disappointed. Story: Compared to the previous instalments, the story was shockingly weak. The story completely backfires on the entire franchise up to this point. And the ending was inconsistent and cliche. The ending didn’t feel natural or earned as 1 and 2 were constantly pushing Hiccup and Toothless closer together but instead the get pushed away because the plot said so. Animation: This is DreamWorks we’re talking about so of course the animation was spectacular. Every single frame was stunning. The extremely high details, the reflections everything was stunning. And the hidden world was just wow. Characters. When your script is weak that of course badly affects your characters. Hiccup was okay but he much more whining than the normally is. Toothless was also fine but he basically abandons Hiccup for the light fury with no intention of coming back even for how’s it been. And then there’s Grimmel who is a very bad villain. He is nowhere near as good as Drago. A big problem I have with him is that his motivations don’t make sense. He doesn’t kill Furies for a specific reason. Overall. The Hidden World is my least favourite and the weakest of the series but it wasn’t the worst film I have ever seen. 6.9 of 10
The way Dreamworks Dragons ends definitely makes me think of how the original Lilo and Stitch franchise ended on a positive note, starting with the Original movie, ending with Leroy and Stitch, with a TV series and a couple of sequels in between, of course. Until they made an Anime and a Chinese spin-off to continue the franchise after that perfect ending of the original, that is. But, I’m glad it’s still being kept alive anyway. It’s a big coincidence how Toothless and the Light Fury are very similar to Stitch and Angel.

A small correction: Toothless's mate is not a Night Fury; she's a similar but distinct subspecies, "Light Fury". There are more Light Furies out there (two can be seen in the Hidden World crowd), but sadly Toothless has been confirmed by the director to be the last proper Night Fury, the rest having been killed off by Grimmel.

2 and 3 have somewhat poor villains and underwhelming finales. 3 had awkward pacing in the final half.
