Thank you for the tip! I just got an australian shepherd puppy and i have 4 young goats and i didn’t know how to properly train her how to herd.😊

If they have the instinct and the WILLPOWER to want to do it. It works great!

Quite amazing what skill level herding dogs can achieve. Replacing many humans on foot.

@@WholesomeFamilyFarms Most dogs don't sulk. Always a smile. Waggly tail. Sparkling eyes. A kiss through a lick and a smell. Don't moan or back chat. And. And. What an example to many of mankind. Give gas! Put foot. Pedal to the metal.

Heyy man I have a question how did You get thatt puppy to start understanding the command because in the video she kinda knows what She's doing how did u get to that point
@WholesomeFamilyFarms22 күн бұрын
Just spend time with the dog on the leash and when you say come by less the dog left and when you say way to me lead the dog to the right and with repetition and time they’ll pick it up fast!

What’s this collar and no fence??? Very interested in what that is and where you got it. Great content always a joy.
@WholesomeFamilyFarms Жыл бұрын
The company No Fence makes collars for cattle, sheep, and goats and you make a virtual boundary fence on your phone and when they approach the boundary line the collar will give a warning with a tone and if they keep going they’ll get a pulse.

Are the cues relative to where you are or where the goats are.

Depends where I want the dog to apply pressure.

Kind of weird to train them on leash. I was always taught getting them to balance on the 12 o clock position was one of the first key steps. Its how i trained my dog. Like do they just go all the way around when you let them off leash?
@WholesomeFamilyFarms3 ай бұрын
My main dog learned only from a leash. By 12 months he could push em from 6 and bring them from the 12 o’clock position.

How many goats are those in total and what breeds are they?
@WholesomeFamilyFarmsАй бұрын
They are mostly Spanish goats. There are enough goats to do some great work on clearing brush and improving the land!

How old is your pup
@WholesomeFamilyFarmsАй бұрын
I like to start the pups young. Get em to learn how to sit stay come lie down etc. as soon as you can. Then hope to have them be good with commands like come by way there by the time they’re 10 months old or so. But every dog is different too.

Could any breed be trained to do this?
@WholesomeFamilyFarms4 ай бұрын
They’ve gotta have the instinct to want to work livestock. There are even a lot of border collies that may not work sometimes. You’ll know if you have one that loves it. If there are livestock around the dog should be laser focused on doing that.

I am just curious i know it an instinct and what they were breed for but wondering how they were trained for it.because ive been watching alot of videos of a small pack of dogs herding their owners farm animals around

I literally just put them on the leash and start working with them day by day and saying commands and lead them where I want them to go with each specific command.

I haven’t sold any off yet. I’ve just kept them for myself so far. But if I do sell any it’d be no less than $5000.

@@WholesomeFamilyFarms I do not blame you.....much time, patience and effort has been spent, in training an invaluable assert..... Better teach people how to train their own dogs, on. Their own time...as you are doing in this video! Thank you so much! Border Collies ROCK!
