I know my response is several months old, but thank you for posting this. Also, love the Kitamura My-1 in the background. I just bought 2 used Kitamura My-2 with APC's. I realized at this exact moment, as I was writing my first program for the machine, that I no longer have a computer with a 9 or 25 pin serial port. I don't mind hand entering a short program but when they get longer it's a complete drag. Thanks again, Jay.

your welcome, it was a real head banger sorting all this having never done it. Glad I could help someone. Wish mine was a my-2 the 7.5hp spindle can be a bit of a drag from time to time...

Hi Lock. I bought the cable and Null modem as suggested along with downloading the Smart DNC software. Everything worked! Thanks again.

Hey thanks for watching, Your comment sub has pushed me to edit and publish some of the hundreds of hours of footage I have(I lost interest for a bit there.) It took me a minute to get this figured out but once I figured out my machine getting it to work for a buddies hardinge sv lathe was pretty easy.

Thanks for the video, I'm working in a machine shop and boss recently had me build him a plasma CNC table and I retrofitted an 1980ties mill to modern Acorn controller , he just recently asked me If I can figure communication between a computer and 2000s era Fanuc control CNC lathe that has serial port on it. This probably saved me lots of research time , thank you for that. one question , the file you make for the CNC mill , are they usually .txt or .gcode ? Also how much memory are those old controllers supposed to have to store all those programs do you know? Thanks!

Glad it helped, I always save as .txt. As far as memory that highly variable even within the same control type on same machine; it depends entirely on the bean counter that ordered it… for example my mill has the high speed machining option but the basic memory of 156kbytes(makes a lotta since right🙄) but could have been ordered with something like 4x the memory if my memory serves me correct… it also was ordered with the basic 4 work offsets instead of the upgrades which could be up to 156 sets which again was pretty dumb considering this machine has two pallets…
