Hi Team Image Hive, I like the 8/16/33 mm look. But is there cheap alternative? Getting the footage developed and digitized is hardly affordable if you want to shoot a full length analog film (and dont want to use pseudo-analog digital filter.)

Aren't you supposed you use lint free gloves to handle the film. That keeps fingerprints off and any acidic deposits from you.

That's a very good point and we should have included in this video. Thank you. Machines we are using have a special filter before film gets scanned, that cleans all the dust and fingerprints. But if you are using other machines, that would be helpful.

What is this, a commercial? Because it sure as hell is not a how to video on converting film to digital. You might as well just call it "how to hire us to digitizet your film for you."

James, sorry you did not learn anything from our video. We tried to put together something that would help people get general idea about film transferring. Script was actually created by a guy who does film transfer on daily basis. Many people thank us for this video as it helped them to get started on this process. Of course, there are many details, and a lot depends on what equipment you end up using. We will consider what else we can add to be more helpful, if you have any ideas, please email us buzz@myimagehive.com.

Just visited your website, very interested in a quote for the HD transfer. I'll be counting reels in the next few days, I may have 10k ft or so, mostly super 8, including 8 400' reels and a lot of 50'. I'll contact you soon.

here's what the general public would need as far as equipment is concerned. 1. A computer with Firewire capture card, est. Cost: 700.00 2. A mini DV camcorder or Digital 8mm Camcorder with Firewire. Est Cost 90 to 300.00. 3. A 8mm/Super8mm Projector. Est Cost 300.00. 4. Video editing software Est Cost 100.00 (Adobe Premiere Elements 12.0) or you can take your films to a local Video Transfer Business. Never chance mailing them out to anybody! That's a big NO-NO! They could get lost or damaged. Hope this helps.

Nonsense, you can get a telecine for around $300 and plenty of local libraries and projector rental services exist that are very affordable, some of which may already have telecine equipment. If none are available you can find projectors under $150 all day. Those combined with a modern smart phone can provide more than adequate recordings for the average person. Versions of the "Wolverine" unit retail for around $300 as well, and is also a fairly adequate machine for any average person interested in preserving a good amount of 8mm and Super 8 film. Hope this helps.

@@ItsMoltar Wolverine is not an option if you want quality, around 2 frames per second it takes ages to have 400 feet of film transferred. The quality is also very poor. If you do the transfer by yourself projected films to the wall and shoot the film with your cell phone, it results in a terrible transfer with flickering video, if your projector is not an adjustable speed one. The best way is to have your films transferred frame by frame. The only way to have the best results.

@@Ericus55 Most people have little interest in "quality" when their home 8 and 16s were fuzzy garbage to begin with. The *average* person looking up "how to digitize film reels" probably just wants a realistic option to transfer home movies for their Nan. Which i provided. I've never had a problem with a flickering in my recordings from either a telecine or a cheapy wolverine. All my personal archived footage looks great, given the quality of the original film.
