Good advice. I am still quite a few years away to retirement but I already learned a similar lesson throughout COVID. During COVID, I was so bored so I did a lot of on-line clothing shopping, for casual and relaxed clothes. I hate closet cluttering so I got rid of a lot of my work clothes like dresses, dress pants, pencil skirts as I thought who is going to wear those again sitting home in PJs and sweat pants all the time. Then we started going back to office and I need more dressy clothes again. And I found it is so much harder to find well-made and flattering work clothes these days with all these ugly trends going on. I should have paused, instead of getting rid of my work clothes in a hurry. I am slowly buying one piece at a time.

One piece at a time is really, really smart! I love that you are focusing on quality. I agree it is harder to come by now. Thank you for hanging out with me for a few minutes - I appreciate you 🌻

I just quit a career that wasn’t serving me anymore and am moving into a new stage of life- I’m so glad I found this video, because I’ve been so overwhelmed with all these clothes that don’t work and so anxious about trying to figure out what I need going forward. Thank you for sharing your wisdom- wait!! That’s exactly what I needed to hear.

When I retired, I did the same thing as you, with the exception of keeping my two blazers (because I knew I could still wear them with a casual wardrobe). However, I didn't pause before proceeding to fill my closet with items that would make up my new wardrobe. Instead, I went a little crazy! My office clothes weren't high-end, quality pieces, 99% of them were polyester. I decided to stick to mostly natural fibers when I purchased new pieces and to create a sustainable and classic wardrobe. Quince has been my go-to for a lot of things. I love their stuff!

I'm gonna need the opposite. I've been a stay at home mom for 5 years and I'll probably go back to work next year. I've been in leggings and shirts for 5 years lol

Hi Ashlee - it seems to me that you will need a good work wear capsule 🌻wardrobe. I love building capsules (and wearing t-shirts and leggings) 😉 Thank you for hanging out with me for a few minutes - I appreciate you!

I have enjoyed experimenting in retirement but have retained my classic simple but modern style. Donated more formal pieces and lots of black and expanded into more relaxed tailoring. No leggings or sweats in sight though.

I retired from nursing after 20 years. My department supplied our scrubs. Leggings were my choice of outfits. I have a few nice items for church but that is about it. I put my maybe items in a bag. If I don’t wear them in 6 month I will give away.

Hi Lori. After my husband & I retired we agreed not to make any big decisions for a year. Unfortunately, I didn't include decluttering my wardrobe as a big decision. The Dress for Success campaign coincided with my retirement date & well, you know the rest.😏 Although I kept a black & a navy blazer, I hadn't realized how much I wore the blazers that went with the donated suits. BTW, I purchased the shoe stackers you mentioned from your closet; game changer!

Hi Linda - It's funny how we don't consider our wardrobes big decisions even though we clearly need to work from it every single day. I'm so glad you like the shoe stackers! I don't think I'll ever be without them. Thanks so much for being here with me - I appreciate you 🌻
