How To Transplant and Pot Your Sago Palm. Dig It Up & Pot It !

This video will show you how to remove a Sago Palm from the ground and relocate it. We actually pot this Sago after digging up. Dear Burke,I've communicated with you recently and now you're getting into my territory of potted sagos living in Ohio. 2 questions, any thoughts on adding like a osmocote fertilizer and one I think I know my answer but no dumb questions right 😅. We have some that are getting quite large for winter indoors. Is it a complete no no to remove all fronds thru the winter????. Love the video and thank you for your work. Mark 😂😂❤❤👍✌️

Hi Mark, no problem if you want to use osmocote. I would start with half the suggested dosage for the first couple feedings to see how the plant likes it. Now for question number 2…. I assume you want to cut the fronds off to take up less space. Your Cyclades would survive but might risk receiving some nutrients it wants while new fronds are being developed. If saving space is a must then maybe cut each frond back half way, or 2/3…. Your sago will probably like you better doing this. Talk soon, Burke

Enjoyed your planting tips. I have a palm I am going to try growing in a pot. It was actually in a neighbors yard for trash pick up. Question~what is the brand of your shovel in the video. I really like the sturdiness of the digging & it looks like it will last a long time.

Hi Sabrina, It looks like the manufacturer name wore off years ago. This one is 27” long. The head is tempered steel and the shaft is fiberglass it seems. I have seen many variations and probably all of them would serve you well. Now back to your newly found sago… happy you could rescue it from the trash!! Good luck with it hope to hear from you again. Hi, thanks for checking in on the Sago potting project. I wish I could include pictures in this message but it is not possible. Almost immediately after the transplant. A new set of fronds came out. The better news is that a second set of fronds are on the way out right now. Success!! Thank you again for the message. Burke
