I happened to have made that mistake a lot with my herbs and am now facing a long long time of Separating. A couple of days ago I realized this was a big mistake and already separated all my little Basils, but I got concerned if I might have done something wrong, therefore I am very glad I found your Video. I searched for a little while and this was The Only Video I found specifically and detailed about dealing with such an issue. Also, If anyone is curious, I did actually go about it the right way with my Basil, seeing my attempt confirmed here and hopefully soon again when my Basil are growing, It gave me a whole lot of confidence in what I am doing :)

Esther, great job with the transplanting! I can’t wait to see how your flower border turns out. It’s going to be beautiful. this is a really nice tutorial video, specially because i have way to many alyssum seeds that are about to finish germinating in a pot, so im not too late, but i think i can make this the next week! i actually just want to repot the flowers instead of transplanting because the cold here is still insane, and also i don't have a garden (i live on an apartment)

I plant seeds in cell trays and do the light thing. But I still end up with needing to separate seedlings and haven't been sure, not paid enough attention that is to the results. Super fun to see you dealing with the issue and confirming that is should be OK!
@EsthersGardeningAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Excellent. I'm glad my video could help. Definitely keep an eye on the seedlings. If they start looking stressed, they may need up potting to a bigger size container if its too early to transplant. I like solo cups with holes added to the bottom. Best of luck! The good news is plants want to live/succeed so the odds are in your favor.

I ran into the same issue with my winter sowing jugs. It was hard separating the seedlings. The roots were intertwined. OMG. I planted them in chunks when unable to break a part. I vowed another approach for winter sowing, too. Definitely want to go along to see how the plants perform.
@EsthersGardeningAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Yeah sowing only a few seeds seems like such a waste of soil when you are doing the WS in the winter but not so much when you have to decide what to do with all those seedlings. 🤣

Awe thank you! That makes me so happy! What seedlings are you growing?
@kimjapinga65503 жыл бұрын
Well, I jumped in with both feet: tomatoes, bell peppers, broccoli, impatiens, Angelonia, purple gomphrena, calendula, Black-eyed Susan vine, nasturtium, basil, thyme, rosemary and strawflowers. My biggest busts were the petunias & coleus. They came up, but they are so small that I can’t imagine them growing into anything. So far my favorite is nasturtium because they get big fast. Very satisfying.
@EsthersGardeningAdventures3 жыл бұрын
I'd say give the coleus some time. If its a perennial, I've noticed those plants take longer to grow...I guess they're in less of a rush than plants that last only 1 year.

Esther, I have SO many flower seedlings!!! I also have Alyssums (for my granddaughter Alyssa💕) and so many others that I do not know what I’m going to do. I’m fearful to set mine out before May 10, our last freeze date)

Yeah that's a calculated risk i was willing to take for the alyssum and sunflowers but not any other flowers or other frost sensitive plants. You'll find a way. So sweet you are growing Alyssum for your granddaughter!

@@EsthersGardeningAdventures the 6 packs I would buy, each one was maybe double the size of yours currently. They mound nicely. Maybe spread 6 to 8 inches wide. You could add a couple seeds in between your starts. The have ones called Easter bonnet, same thing but pinks and purples. They smell so nice too.

Hi Esther! This happened recently with my arugulas. They stopped growing and now I feel like they're overcrowded. Do you think I should also do this for them? I live in the tropics so it's basically summer all year round, and I'm scared that my arugulas would all die with one wrong move haha

Idk what I did wrong. I started my flowers Inside and there’s a lot of grow in each cell. Idk when to transplant and how many seedlings I can put in each pot.
@EsthersGardeningAdventures2 жыл бұрын
It probably has to do with how many seeds you planted per spot. You can either pot up each seedling into a new larger container or you can cut off the seedlings you don't want in each and leave the best one to live. Hope that helps.

What ended up happening with your seedlings that you left too close together? Just wondering because I just started a bunch of vegetable seedlings (several different kinds), and the broccoli, for example, I just dumped some seeds into the tiny little seedling tray cell, like 10 of them all together. I was NOT thinking when I did that, at all. Now I have no idea what to do. I tried separating one bundle of them and planting them alone in little cells, but that didn't work out great, 3 of them died already, the other 4 or so are still looking alive. Maybe I just need to wait until they're bigger to separate them so the roots aren't so fragile? (They're only like 8 or so days old right now, I think.) So, maybe waiting would be wise?
@EsthersGardeningAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Waiting a little longer might help. But honestly I don't have a lot of experience growing seedlings indoors so I'm not 100% sure. I use the winter sowing process to grow my seedlings so I don't tend to touch them until around the time they're ready to transplant. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
