How To Trap Wolves: My Favorrite Set

This is a very good set but hard to find the perfect spot where I am trapping now. I used the white traps so you can see them easily.

Alaska manning #9 is a great wolf trap as well as the koro wolf trap nearly indestructible.. MB750 and bridgers are not as good by comparison...but still do the job. I'd use a good cold weather call lure nearby and wolf urine on the hide scent post .....smart to have the approaching wolves on the level side of the bank ..most canines dislike approaching anything from the steep side and prefer a shallow water approach.

Trapping World Interesting set I lived in Alaska for years and the vast number of traps used just amazed me! Years ago there was a case where a hiker had released and destroyed all the set in an area. She got the book dropped on her fines and jail time. Is that an issue up there, in Manitoba? Never met an unfriendly character from that area just great nurtured people!

Conibears are not allowed for wolves here and I doubt it would be very humane if one did get caught. Plus that is a lot of steel to hide from a wolfs nose.

Trapping World yeah I would’ve never thought to use a water set for wolves. Inexperienced in trapping both coyote and wolves which is why it is important to think outside the box. I only caught 1 coyote with mange thirty-four years ago. Took a thirty year hiatus from trapping. Been addicted to cold smoking mackerel and pickling mackerel, herring,wild game meat in raw organic cow milk kefir. I make my own kefir also. I know I want to go to northern Canada and Alaska some day as well as visit Greenland. I eat everything I trap but do not go after canines. I hope to cable trap a black bear this year here in Maine. Love bear meat and think otter tastes better than anything I ever eaten for game meat. I’m trapping for beaver now and eating the meat. Great videos you have!!

I don't think that the hide of an animal is considered as bait I think it is considered as a visual attracted bait means something that they are actually going to eat check with your trapping State and see what their definition of bait is but I don't believe that hair and Hyde are going to be under the same category as bait meet would be considered as bait but I don't think hair and skin would be considered as bait just like here where I live in Northeast Iowa Corn is considered as bait for raccoons but corn stalks and corn cobs are not considered as bait they do not eat those parts just like wolves do not eat hair and skin they eat the entrails the organs and the meat that might be a technicality that gets you to be able to use this set wording is everything read how they word the law of what is considered bait and then determine from there on what is the going was not good luck

May I ask about key ingredients in your wolf paste? I'm also curious about the dimensions of your marten nesting boxes (where females raise young). Perhaps a video?

+rr bernhardt Hey there.... sorry I missed this question somehow. The wolf paste is a mixture of beaver and bear meat ground up and put in a jar to rot. I place a weighted piece of glass over the jar to allow some gasses to escape and leave it for a couple of months. When I need to use it I scoop some into a smaller plastic container, add some beaver castor and rendered down bear fat to stop freezing and that is my wolf scent.

The traps are on a drag and when they get caught they go into the bush and get tangled in the trees and then just sit there and wait for me. We have rules that we have to check the traps very regularly so they don't have to sit long. So sorry it is not inhumane.

Well since people have taken over much of both animals habitats they both need to be held in check. If not they will just eat all the food animals and then starve. The balance would eventually level out and start the cycle over again. Over population leads to disease and shortages of most prey species.
