How to traverse CRIB GOCH. A first hand view of the most DANGEROUS route up MOUNT SNOWDON.

An ascent on Mount Snowdon via the infamous Crib Goch route to see just how scary it is. Approaching from the pen-y-pass car park and via the pyg track, we tackled the infamous ridge towards the summit to be met with some spectacular weather and storm clouds at the summit. Followed by a descent down a lesser known and particularly treacherous wet grassy path towards the Nant Peris cark park on the flanks of the Mountain. A great day with the ridge living up to it's name.
Crib Goch is not to be messed about with.

That's a great video. There are not that many decent videos of Crib Goch that show what it is really like.

Yeah I think a lot of people use a fish eye wide angle. Kind of ruins it. Thanks for the comment.

This is great because it's going to give someone thinking of doing this a realistic view of what it's like. Depending on the weather it's terrifying.

Well done you two , brilliant video . Well filmed, it shows how nasty that ridge really is . Great views , the last time I was up there you couldn’t see a hand in front of you . The mist was that bad . Again , great video 👍

Yeah I’ve seen it like that myself. More scary like that i think. For a knife ridge it can confuse you still in the mist. Thanks for the comment👍🏻

Fantastic video, and an absolute hats off to you both, and indeed, every single person brave enough to take on the Crib Goch challenge. Nerves of steel for sure! Think I'll stick to the Pyg Track but thanks for a cracking upload mate 😊

This is one of the best Crib G vids. Thought yiu did a really good review of the overall route. I did it with a friend ( who had a better head for heights than me ) when it was good weather and I was around 48 years of age. It reminded me of our time there- your advice on staying calm is really solid advice. I remember going up the buttress and then realising that it was easier doing the ridge than giing down the buttress. Once done it was very rewarding - but it is pretty scary. Top job you 2
@alantierney
@alantierney 3 ай бұрын
Yeah i think the buttress is the worst bit myself. Because you cant really turn back without going over the whole lot again. In reverse down a scramble. Thanks for the comment

Nice video! That little series of exposed steps on the right hand of the second turret was the moment I felt most exposure, as even though you're facing the wall and it takes only a few hundred seconds to traverse I was fair conscious of that drop behind me. The secondary scramble onto Ganard Uggain was amazing fun and felt incredibly safe after the airyness of the second turret.

Yeah. I think it's the worst bit. Its hard to convey on a video. They lack the sense of depth. But for a small part that feels like you could be vertical climbing there. Terrifying. Makes you wonder why you bother really 🤣

Maybe easier in winter with the old Spiderman shoe grips and ice axe fall stopper. Wet greasy rock is deadly here.

I've not tried traversing something like that in winter before. But I do agree. Polished wet rock is unbelievably treacherous.
@Wuldier
@Wuldier 3 ай бұрын
its actually not easier.. ive done this in all seasons, and conditions, its crazy in all to be honest, but the snow and ice isnt thick enough on them rocks up there in most winters, so its worse as you cant always see what rocks you are placing your crampons onto and it all falls away from in in pretty large amounts at times lol.

@alantierney will be doing it this year. All of my demons (symbolic) are on crib goch. I either emerge victorious or not at all. I will respect what I am doing, take my time, 3 points of contact. Most of all I will be calm. It will be a sunny day with no wind and will wear knee, elbow forearm and lower leg armour. Possibly a helmet. Will start at dawn so I am not worried about being caught after dark.
