In this video I’ll show you what I do every fall, winter, and sometimes spring to prevent leaf curl in my peach and nectarine trees using this natural fungicide. If your trees are already showing signs of leaf curl its too late to use this fungicide but there is still plenty you can do to keep your tree healthy.

I get bladder plum. I just pull them off and dispose in the rubbish making sure I wash my hands. I pull the leaf curl leaves off immediately too. A lady in New Zealand sprays all the trees in her orchard with 1 cup apple cider vinegar to 10 litres of water.... sprays the trees every 2 weeks. A lot of work but her trees are so healthy.

Don't know if you realize that the seeds germinate easily (the first year I think) if you just bury them in your garden about 2 inches deep. I have acquired so many this way that I have to either give them away or discard them.

I have a young nectarine tree (about 4-5 feet tall) that was already budding when I planted it in mid-April, and shortly afterwards it started developing leaf curl. It's getting fairly bad now... it still has leaves, but I'd say 70-80% of them are diseased and most at the top of the plant are dead. Watching you get geared up for spraying, i saw you put on your old leather gloves. That's a problem. If you use those gloves for different sprays, they get wet then dry, reconcentrating the chemicals. Over time those get stronger and stronger, exposing you to more absorption problems. I had a coworker that used to do a lot of landscaping as a side job. He wore a set of leather boots that absorbed lots of lawn chemicals. His feet sweat and he absorbed too much through his feet. It did something to paralyzed his cardiac sphincter.

Yo just an FYI the N95 is doing very little compared to a different mask and it's how you're wearing it. It needs a complete seal, and with your glasses under the lip you've broken it. You may find that the half-face respirators at home depot with the bayonet cartridges are a little easier to wear, plus they can be extended to other chemicals if you buy the right cartridge.

@urbanfarmstead
@urbanfarmstead 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think that it's necessarily passed on through genetics but genetics do play a role in how susceptible a certain variety is. The best way to prevent it would be to plant a variety with a known resistance. That trade is bread into some, but it will of course reduce your options if you're in search of a specific variety.

@urbanfarmstead
@urbanfarmstead 4 жыл бұрын
Grateful Princess of God the tree can be sprayed any time during its dormant season. So after the leaves fall but before it flowers. No need to see a close up of the buds, but sorry I wasn’t able to show them for you.
@Dandelion_flight
@Dandelion_flight 4 жыл бұрын
@@urbanfarmstead Thanks for the reply. Some say when the buds are swelling. I am not sure what that means. Often the tree has buds in various stages, some still closed, some may have a little pink showing, and some have even bloomed. LOL. Dormant after leaves fall means that winter is the best time. But in winter we have to prune the tree before new buds grow right? So should we not wait for the new buds to come in before spraying? Isn't the fungicide aiming at the new buds? Or am I wrong? Thank you.
@urbanfarmstead
@urbanfarmstead 4 жыл бұрын
Grateful Princess of God it’s recommend to spray at least twice during dormancy. Right after the leaves fall and again in early spring but it doesn’t need to be at bud swell. The fungicide kills spores. The fall spray will kill existing spores, the spring spray will kill remaining of new spores that may have a iced via wind, so closest to bloom time is best.
@Dandelion_flight
@Dandelion_flight 4 жыл бұрын
@@urbanfarmstead Thanks. Actually it's the beginning of the last month of winter for us here and I can already see buds, like I described, some closed, some showing a little red, two are already opened. It is not even spring. Should I spray then? Where do spores hide?
@urbanfarmstead
@urbanfarmstead 4 жыл бұрын
Grateful Princess of God. I always advise following the instructions on the label of the product you use, but I’m pretty sure this product I use says it’s ok to spray as long as it’s not in full bloom. It sounds like yours is as the same stage that mine was when I filmed this video in late winter here. The spores are microscopic and can be anywhere on the bark of the tree.

I haven't experienced this problem. Should I plan on doing this in the fall? My peach tree has already bloomed & has fruit. I have an Orange tree that I think may have this. Can it spread from tree to tree?
@urbanfarmstead
@urbanfarmstead 4 жыл бұрын
How old is your peach tree? Some varieties are more resistant than others. I would spray it while dormant if it gets leaf curl this summer. This leaf curl disease will not affect orange trees so it’s likely something different but it’s possible this product could help. But you’d want to be sure.

Leaf curl can affect the heeled and quality of the fruit but not the edibility. Are you asking if the product you sprayed on the tree will affect the edibility? If so, the only way to know is to read and follow the information on the label of the product you used.
