Always wanted to ask this .. for very large driftwoods where boiling and all is not practical .. can we dip those woods in an old aquarium and use salt water instead.. may be add quite a few packets of rock salt to it ... another approach could be to use liquid bleach ?? How do you advise to handle large driftwoods .. the ones which are let’s say 4 feet long and all .. ?

Depending on your location you need to add heater... I use heater in the storage during winter.. Otherwise only airstone

You need to tie a stone to it and keep it inside the tank... After about 15 to 20 days you can remove the stone

The best way is to boil the driftwood directly instead of following this lengthy procedure,, Thats is what I did, i boiled the driftwood for 30 min or 45 min , infact it didn't made me to tie with stone, , the driftwood got ready once it got Normal , it's been 2yrs m using 2driftwood of the root of the tree , the beneficial bacteria producing from the driftwood is benefiting the fishes with no effects..

If you don't treat it.. Some woods give out a brown color in your tank.. Sometimes it might be harmful for the fishes

Did you treat the wood...? Some varieties take a long time to absorb water... You can tie a stone to the wood and dip it in the tank... Use aquarium friendly stone... May be after a month or so it will sink... Later you can remove the stone
