Great tutorial, I actually think I can do this now :) Thanks for posting this. I live in the arctic & being aussie watching this video, I really miss sliding windows (only outward opening here) and above all else- easy install fly-screens! Never take anything for granted guys! The DIY fly screens in Europe are complicated. The rubber tube & groove frame screens back home are not to be underestimated. Two of the things I miss, weirdly enough. Velcro lock or double sided tape just doesn't make the grade IMO, not with there being more blowies & mosquitos here than Down Under!?!!

Awesome video, very neat way to cut the blind by removing them from the roller. Another tips for the cord is you can cut them and use the jointer to fit them within the frame. The jointer also can be used as stopper so you won’t keep rolling the blind. Cheers

@InspireDIY

Hey Naima, I used a file to smooth out the cut not sandpaper, but you can try it if you like. Hy bro I just wanna ask you am so so confused what width mean and drop because when I measuring the windows I just seen like 170 so when I need to Oder the blinds they asking me width so give me some information about that width and drop and what they are
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, yeah the width is obviously how wide the window is, but this is measured between the frame of the window (frame is usually timber), the drop is the height of the window or door (or how long the blind needs to be). ihope this helps, Kent
@DeeDee-rr3sn
@DeeDee-rr3sn 3 жыл бұрын
Great video but I'm a little confused. To cut the roller blind down to size, do you include the little metal or plastic and caps, you know what the little thing sticking out that actually hold the blind up, in the measurement when you cut the blind down, if that makes sense?.
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry Dee Dee, I'm not sure what you are asking 🤷‍♂️. I have the end caps and brackets in place for an overall measurement. Don't worry about the spring-loaded pin, it'll fit in no problem. Does that answer your question?
@DeeDee-rr3sn
@DeeDee-rr3sn 3 жыл бұрын
@@InspireDIY Thank you for responding. You kind of answered my question. My roller is too big for the window. It has a flat metal pin, that does not have a spring, on one end that fits into the mounted bracket and on the other end it has the small metal pin that does retract(spring). Now i might be over thinking this, but both of the mounted brackets take up a bit of space as do the pins that extend on the shade. You measured the actual wood window frame and then cut your blind material/post down to size. Are you telling me you don't have to factor in the thickness of the brackets on either end and the extension of the metal pins in the the total measurement before you cut down the roll and material? Does that make what i'm asking a bit more clear??
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah those brackets have to be added into your measurement... here's the equation; Roller blind (+ end caps & brackets all together) measurement - window frame size = amount to cut off roller and fabric. There will be a gap around the blind due to the brackets using a bit of space 🙄 block-out is a bit misleading, the material blocks out light, but how the blinds are designed let's light in all the way around 🤷‍♂️. Hopefully this helps.

Was there a special saw used to cut ?
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY Жыл бұрын
Hey Naima, that’s a great question …when the blind is mock assembled on the floor I get the overall measurement, then subtract the window frame measurement, then cut that much off the roller, mine was about 30mm so I used a hacksaw to cut, and a file to smooth the cut end. Both these are pretty cheap tools if you don’t have them already. Best of luck👍 Kent

Hey AJ, yeah sure can, switch the two end mechanisms (and brackets) around, you can also have the blind roll facing forward or back depending on your preference. Best of luck mate👍Kent

Is there any way to shorten the chain at all so it sits within the window recess as it normally would?
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Superteminal, yeah you can👍 look for the little joiner piece within the length of chain, separate it there, cut the excess off to size and re-join it again. Best of luck mate, Kent

So you can you cut the fabric to shorten the length as well?
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can, I quite liked keeping the roll long for 2 reasons, 1; This allows fix ups for things like if the dog chews it🤷‍♂️ there is still enough fabric for coverage once damage cut off, and 2; the larger spool of blind material tended to block more light sneaking through at the tops of the windows above the blind (not a deal breaker though).
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Great question though Monica.. You may need to change to double sided tape if you are to trim the top of the fabric, as we need it attached to the blind roller some how. 👍Kent

@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY Жыл бұрын
Hey Martin, you can do away with the sewn end that feeds into the channel groove by cutting the blind a wrap or two larger than what you need and double sided taping it to the roller. this works so long as it can remain a wrap or two when fully extended. best of luck, Kent

Hey Imogen, great question.. yeah the hacksaw suits the aluminium but would leave a rough edge on the fabric that would fray☹️. For the 10mins it takes to unroll and do properly I reckon you blinds are worth it👍. Thanks, Kent

Take your time, scissors are the easiest way, I suggest you make several measurement marks on the back side of the unfurled blind and draw a straight line to cut along. Good luck and please let me know how you get on😉

Hey Jamie, sorry mate - yeah, the first measurement was a rough measure to ascertain what size blind I’d need ..eg a 1.8m x 1.2m was just oversize. Then before cutting it down to size I got accurate measurements 👍 I hope that helps mate, cheers, Kent

A few pro tips. 1. If possible, use a sharp Stanley knife to trim the blind and cut in one smooth motion. If there's any fraying you can trim with clippers or (be careful) but use a lighter to round of any small frays. 2. Cut down the blind on the "pin side" any imperfections will be less noticeable as they will be less visible than if on the cord side (the side you roll up and down with) 3. When applying the bottom rail. You need to make sure you put it on with a smooth motion to avoid "puckering". If puckering occurs there are two options. If it's minimal you can gently tug the bottom rail downwards and with your hands push the skin outwards from the puckering to the edge of the blind. ... if the puckering is heavy you can remover the bottom rail and re apply. Making sure you apply smoothly and consistently. Good video though :)
