I want to thank you. My heater was 10 years old, I couldn’t get it to light. I replaced the pilot generator. Replace some old wires. I replaced the roll over sensors. And it’s running fine. I also changed out the gas valve. I got it on line for $250. I think I could troubleshoot these things now. When you own stuff like this it’s pays to watch KZbin, because it will save a lot of money on service calls

Oh thank God, finally a good video with somebody I can understand! Apparently I'm also becoming an electrician as well as a pool expert as a first-time homeowner mother of three and start up entrepreneur with a pool in her backyard… I've to Hayward heaters one is a 150 and the other is a 300 and neither of them work… I'll definitely be bookmarking these and checking back tomorrow but in the meantime where can I get one of those Millivolti checker things? :)

Sorry for the late response Ashley. You just need a multimeter, any one will work as long as it has a millivolt scale.

Good info, it would also be good to apply dielectric grease to the terminals after cleaning them.

Hayward h200. I got the the pilot working but look like not enough flame to start the heater. The dcv is like -180. What can I do to make it start?

All of the heat sensors do they need to be plugged back up the same way and how do you test the switch using a multimeter and using the multimeter to test the pressure switch and the two wires plugged up to the switch pressure switch. They have to be plugged in the same way, or doesn’t matter.

Head up! When you are jumping a gas valve to test it make sure you are on standby or let it run no more than ten seconds. That being said, you are taking a big risk that can lead to an explosion because the gas valve is designed to protect the system from turning on if it detect a problematic, like a roll out or some kinds of sorts. Imaging their is a fire and the system is supposed to shut off the valve but in this case it can't because you just by-pass the valve to open and if the fire were to enter the gas pipe that is connected right through your house I could tell you its not going to be a pretty picture.

My thermopile is only a year old but is only putting out around 320 MV. I jumped it and it came right on. Do I need to leave the jumper wire on there?

Hello , i have clean all connections , the voltage is around 400 mV, the pilot is on , but the valve still closed unfortunately, any idea please ? (all by-pass has been made)

Hi Phillip, when I test with my multimeter (I also have the exact same one as you) across the pilot generator terminals, I read only 100-200 millivolts, fluctuating wildly. Attempting to jump the gas valve has no effect. Is this the symptom of a failed pilot generator?
@hoganapex117 жыл бұрын
Phillip, my Hayward 200 was working OK and then furnace/pilot went out. I can turn the pilot on, but it immediately shuts off when I let the pilot button up. There is flame, etc., but won't stay on. Not sure where to start with it. Any suggestions welcomed!

Hey, I jumped out my gas valve, when I remove the jumper it will stay on. Does that mean it is going bad? Or do I not have enough milivolts to open the valve? My multi-meter reads 380-400 mv (I replaces the thermal pile last year).
@shadyss962 жыл бұрын
Hey there I know this is old, but thank you for this! Question for you- Would you say the gas valve unit has a high failure rate or are they known to stick and not open?

Heater will not fire, but when I jump the gas valve it does. I am getting 500 millivolts what do I check for next? Hah. Scrap that question. After going through all my connections I found the one that was causing me grief. It seems to have been just connection issue. Of course it was the last 1I checked. Thanks for the video.

My heater turns on but after about 45 seconds it turns off with a clicking sound and even the pilot turns off. Any idea on what the issue may be?
@tigerinatux60778 жыл бұрын
From the look of inside the heater it is clear that the heater lacks annual service and maintenance, I can imagine the condition of pilot assembly, flame sensor and rollover switch. Corrosion on terminals of rollover switch ? How about the switch itself? Is there a roll over? Why? What is blocking the exhaust? Is there a soothing build up in combustion chamber? Is gas pressure where it should be? For the past 30 years in this business I have repaired many heaters that other "pros" recommended replacement of heater. Why? Pool guys are great for what they do. Clean and maintain water quality, sometimes repair of pipes or even replacing pumps. When it comes to heaters... After weeks of efforts and frustration they usually call me.
@phillipbartholomew44078 жыл бұрын
John, the previous owner neglected this thing with regards to maintenance for over 6 years. If you check my other videos you'll see that the pilot assembly was in terrible rusted connection. Yes, I agree -- I enjoy working on millivolt systems because they are easy with no logic/control boards to diagnose. The combustion chamber was removed and multiple white spider webs were pulled out of nozzles etc with wires and the whole thing blown out. Gas pressure with the manometer was right on target.
@tigerinatux60778 жыл бұрын
Yes, and it is a good heater too. I was working on one H350 few days ago. Same thing. Like you said, neglected, lack of service and maintenance.

Did you have it on the milli volt setting? if the pilot stays on, the thermopile should be putting out a millivolt amount.

Phillip- have a H200 heater and it fired up this morning, somewhere along the line shut off and now won't fire. Watched your video on the pilot generator and that will be my next test, but do you think it could be the gas valve? Will check you videos on that as I'm not sure how to 'jump' it correctly. Thanks for your help
@phillipbartholomew44078 жыл бұрын
Hi Hogan, check my channel -- I have a video on how to jump it out. It's very rarely the gas valve. If you jump it and it lights then the gas valve is ok. You will hear a "click" from the gas valve as the coil engages and opens the valve to allow the gas to flow. The gas valve will not open if there is inadequate voltage from the powerpile. If the powerpile voltage is good and all sensors test ok when it most likely is the gas valve.

Have you ever found not able to get 500+ millivolts from the pilot gen. that is new, with new pilot assemble. It is a Hot Shot control system.
@phillipbartholomew44078 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, I've never seen that. On a brand new power pile, I've always seen a bit over 500, never under 500.
