Hey Max G, thats my dads name (Max Giiford!) Im a third generation, German taught mason. I love thinking outside the box and developing alternate ways to do things and sharing my findings with others. People like you are what makes it worth my time to do these teaching videos! Thanks Max!

That’s awesome bro! I’m a second generation mason me and my father still work together. I’m 31 now I started pointing houses by myself by the time I was 19. It’s an awesome trade. It’s cool to see another guy who does pointing. Keep up the good work that grapevine pointing can be a pain. Looks great

@@maxg9999this might sound like boasting or bragging exaggerating while putting this guy down or even “ trolling “ or whatever you kids call it but I am a long since retired tradesman and actually did Real TUCKPOINTING for many years decades ago and most liberal run Union dumping ground swamp sites even way back then were loaded with no skills no standards no clue special needs kids but there were a few of us who learned from the Dinosaurs the proper ways and I actually worked on a big one 30 plus years ago where the architecture engineering company rep was the Inspector who actually knew what he was doing and if he caught anyone holding a small concrete finishing trowel or hawk or anything else against the wall You Would Be Fired! Immediately terminated! Yeah kids, that’s the Real World of TUCKPOINTING where everything is Washed Down before and after cutting out the joints with Air Tools Only and anyone caught sneaking an electric power tool like a grinder ( especially) and the whole company would get kicked off the job! And I know that must sound extreme nowadays but Real TUCKPOINTING requires washing down cutting out cleaning up and better be cut an inch deep everywhere and not just here and there It’s an enormous amount of work to do it properly and thats why THERES so many clueless ones making videos and I was actually one of the relatively few back then who could easily tuck point a few hundred square feet of brickwork if it was properly prepped but that was after doing it fairly regularly for over a decade and my work was pointed to a finish with a proper mix and not the wet shit he’s using that’s not even close to TUCKPOINTING mix and Speed and neatness are 100 % about the mix. Most pre mix just add water bag mixes are not what I would ever use for TUCKPOINTING and way too expensive I dry and screen sand from multiple different places different colors of mason sand mixed with lime and Portland or masonry cement/ dry screened clean mason sand do samples etc but that’s way too much fussing around and a lot of extra work compared to a bag mix spec mix whatever Anyway if you use Wet Sand and I mean even slightly damp sand to mix with when it comes to TUCKPOINTING? You’re Fed right from the get go kid

I worked liberal run Union BAC for decades and long since retired and worked many TUCKPOINTING jobs in the 80 s 90 s when it was much more of a real thing and some actually knew what they were doing but those days are over in America now and if you can make the same money doing anything else but TUCKPOINTING Do It it’s actually an enormous amount of prep work wash downs cutting out with grinders or chipping hammers generators compressors and a whole lot more shit that you don’t have to deal with anywhere else

I decided to post a positive comment about this good video on traditional repointing, and am curious about your cleanout technique. But please do not post another bag repointing video without improving almost everything about your bag technique, and your understanding of what's important to focus on. Nothing personal, except that the bag repointing video was excruciatingly terrible work.

@@JerryAndSherrygrout bagging and calling it tuck pointing is a typical clueless American thing and I have only seen one or two guys out of dozens of videos that actually knows how to use a grout bag so this guy is no worse than dozens of others I’ve seen! This guy is NO TUCKPOINTER Anyway though obviously

@@JerryAndSherryand the proper way to cut out brick mortar joints is with a small air hammer that Air Tools No Electric and the Sane Knowledgable ones all know that but it’s way too much for clueless Americans who would most likely chip up and spall the brick if they ever attempted to cut out that way so most people use grinders which make Way too much dust and really just make the whole process so much harder! I am long since retired but used to air hammer out a few hundred square feet easily way back in the day in a fraction of the time that any of these clueless “ experts “ take with grinders

Nope, that's still not tuck pointing... that's 'flush' pointing where the mortar is 'flush' with the brick. Tuck pointing is where the mortar is 'proud' of the brick
@toecutter1015
@toecutter1015 Ай бұрын
No it’s not Flush pointing would be without the grape vine tool ( which is really a Colonial style not a grape vine even though all clueless Americans call it that) the only time that mortar “ stands proud “ of the brick or whatever you’re pointing is when doing a type of “ birds beak “ look which is obviously more difficult and definitely not for any DIY er . But Tuck pointing is actually a Trade anywhere else but clueless USA and there are many many different styles and looks like Penny Roll and Wigging etc which are Way Beyond American capabilities and this guy is definitely NO TUCK POINTER

No offense personally to this guy ( cause I have definitely seen much worse) but that’s not the proper way to tuck point on a legitimate job or at least it wasn’t decades ago when I did it for many years and there were a few jobs that would fire anyone who ever had a little finish trowel held against the wall or anything else Everything comes off the trowel ( tuck pointing tool) and if you can’t hold dry mud ( not that wet slop) tuck pointing mix on a trowel or it hurts your body to hold a hawk with a little mortar on it?? That’s the most crybaby pitiful thing I’ve ever heard as far as the trade goes and if anyone ever said anything like that for an excuse to hold the trowel against the wall because they are too physically weak and unskilled also???WTF Americans today are the most clueless people on earth when it comes to anything skills/ trades related

Hey might wanna have your drug addict so called husband back up before something bad happens. I've told you from the very beginning to kick him to the fucking curb. I have my own faults but have done immense amounts of work correcting my poor behaviors! I've sat back for YEARS warning you! I honestly feel in my heart that your a wonderful person and have experienced it a thousand times. PLEASE I beg you pack up and leave! You can't see it because you've been encompassed in it for SO LONG! Addiction is a family disease and nothing would make me happier or prouder than you taking your daughter and escaping this drug induced world hes dragged you into! It doesn't make sense right now to you because it's "what you've know for so long!" They're is a beautiful life outside of this crap and I would be more than willing to help you find it. I hope that THIS TIME this will get through to you. Life is so so so short, why waste it trapped by a suicidal drug addict. The sky's the limit and I pray you choose to start reaching for it!

Great Job? Really? Wow STANDARDS are even lower than I thought in the USA today and if you think that this guy is a good pointer?? And you’re in the business at a “ very profitable “ level??? Sorta funny how no one that I ever worked with for decades doing Real TUCKPOINTING in liberal run no merit no standards American Union dumping ground swamp sites that was actually really good and fast and neat and knew the process ever made Any money doing it Might as well be doing something way easier for the same money It’s always been the clueless slow and sloppy no skills wankers who actually make money and don’t know the first thing about the trades

I would get fired way back in the day on a TUCKPOINTING job if I ever held a small finishing trowel against the wall to point or a hawk or anything else Everything had to come off the trowel and the mix was much dryer and better than the splashy mix he’s using! But Seriously Hold the hawk or trowel against the walls 30 years ago would get you fired real quick

I haven’t thumbed down it yet since I have seen much worse than this on the U tube but this guy ( no offense) is certainly not a tuck pointer by any means! I used to work with crews that actually did Real TUCKPOINTING and would have pointed that little couple of square feet to a finish neat and perfect in way less time than he explained his nonsense about how holding a hawk is just too painful for him?? WTF? Talk about a crybaby if you can’t hold a hawk with a little mortar on it without it hurting you physically??? Maybe your in the wrong place

It’s really not a great video or even a decent one This guy is clearly clueless about TUCKPOINTING 101 and I am one of a few long since retired old geezers who used to point that little bit he’s doing in less time than he spent crying about how holding a hawk with mortar on it hurts his wrist and hard on his body??? WTF?? Really? And you claim to be a tuckpointer??? If you can’t hold mud on a trowel after claiming to be in the trade so long??? Can’t even hold mud on a trowel and making videos literally showing what would have got anyone fired for doing? Having to hold the trowel or hawk against the wall means that you don’t have basic apprentice skills anywhere else but clueless no merit no standards USA

I just had to comment on this one for way too many reasons and I am not a “ hater “ or “ troll “ or whatever you kids say nowadays and mean no personal offense to anyone in the comments or this guy making the video because god knows I’ve seen worse much worse okay?? That comment made about some college guy who came up with some nonsense multiple lift multiple layers of pointing is something that I’ve heard about before and it’s literally the stupidest most clueless opposite thing but it’s possible that the “ college boy “ came up with it because the mix was being used Way Too Wet and THERES no way to fill the inch deep ( or at least it should be) cut out because it just splashes back out and you can’t pack wet mortar! ?? ( just a guess where that ridiculous nonsense comes from?) Keeping the Sun off the work when tuck pointing is Critical necessary and Overcast days like on the video are perfect makes everything easier than blazing sun but that mix is sloppy splashy compared to anything that I ever pointed with and grout bagging is so F in No Skills Clueless and none of us were ever allowed to do anything like that! Totally flim flam and not tuck pointing has zero to do 😊with tuck pointing and anyone who calls grout bagging tuck pointing is just embarrassing themselves anywhere else but clueless no merit no standards USA and are these clueless no skills whatsoever ones using mortar or grout out of the grout bags?? Are they Diluting type S pre mix to watery consistency??? Because THATS RADICALLY THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT TUCKPOINTING MIX IS SUPPOSED TO BE WHICH IS A DRY MIX AND YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHAT A DRY MIX MEANS! And that wall doesn’t even looks like it was cut out clean looking like a lot of original mortar still stuck all over the brick and not a good proper cut out everything has to be one inch deep every inch and 3 point contact Etc only in the USA can someone claim to be doing the work for so long and still be clueless but America is clueless about trades like TUCKPOINTING obviously
Tuck point like a pro!
