How to tune a Kalimba

This video explains the process of tuning your 8 key Mountain Melodies high diatonic thumb piano. This thumb piano is tuned in the key of C. If you do not own a tuner like the one in the video there are apps you can download on your phone that will achieve the same results. We offer free tuning on any of our thumb pianos. Bought a cheap Kalimba to play around with. Thought it would already be tuned. Half the notes were the same. Glad to find your video.

If someone has struggled like my to find a proper tuning for a kalimba in 7 notes (like cheap coconuts kalimba) I tuned mine like this C# A F# E G# B E (from left to right). I don't know if it's a good tuning but it sound good enough for me ^^ If anyone have better option i'm interested :)

You could have played the correct notes for a bit longer. Some people don't have an electronic tuner and rely on tuning by ear.

Coline no, it just helps with precision. Most apps work fine, and if you need more accuracy or sensitivity you can place your phone on the kalimba board/ sound hole so that the vibrations transfer directly to the phone

Question... All the 8 key kalimbas I've seen are minis. Where can I get one that is like the one you're tuning in the video that's regular sized but still 8 keys? A link would be much appreciated. Thank you.

my kalimba's lower c key is a b key, how do I fix that?

bittercereal24 the note C is higher than B, so move the tine inwards to make its length shorter

Can’t believe you are using a normal hammer and bashing it away! You are supposed to cover the part of the hammer that touches the tines to protect them when striking. The way you are bashing them concerns me; you shouldn’t need to bash like that.
