I appreciate going into this little niche of Beam. Providing an educational experience instead of an overdone crashfest or people that just slam more power into engines and call that fast

Honestly i am one of thoose people who loves to see cars crumble like aluminium foil on games, but i can't deny that i always wanted a tuning community on Beam because it's a lotta fun and it is no secret that the stock tunes are never even close to ideal. I had plenty of fun attempting to build hot rods, trackers, and street tuners, and i will keep doing it.

I really would like to see a long diffucult video about suspention tuning based on physics, telemetry etc. Since this game have replay, slo-mo and UI apps, we have potentially analyze this stuff. It's a challenge for me, to make a rally car which is fast in corners, but also is stable on bumps.
@Ferrari255GTO
@Ferrari255GTO 2 жыл бұрын
The problem with rally cars is that the driving style also matters a lot for the tune, wich means that sometimes rather than having a good handling tune you need to adapt to something worse in order for the car to be capable of surviving some sections. Modern rally cars are a bit of a mistery to me though, i only know about the ones between 2005/1997, so this might not be completely true today.

One of the things i enjoy the most on Beam is creating my own builds, wether they are street cars, trackers, derby cars, odd iterations of vehicles, or just absolutely wild and unrealistic powerfull beasts. There are plenty of parts mods that help with this, like the "more superchargers mod" wich lets you go WILD and shove inhumane amounts of power onto any engine, the ultra radiators, wich makes thoose engines never melt, customizable grip tyres, more bodykits, aero, etc. Every beam player should mess with the tuning and parts menu, you don't need to make good tunes, just have fun :D

@@squidwardo7074 while that swap is a fun idea, i have already done something better: the engine in the truck can take FAR more abuse without indestructibility mods, so twincharging the T series with the supercharger mod is more effective. Big detail that was missed here, the camber adjustments in the tune section are NOT absolute. A camber of 0% does not mean the tires are dead vertical, it means they havent been adjusted. Depending on your spring height, wheels, and tires the camber actual changes. The tuning of camber then adjusts from this value. If you really want solid details on alignment you need to enable the alignment UI element. It gives you the actual alignment of the wheels, not the percent value of the adjustment.

A lot of things were done wrong here. First of all, the brake bias is not limited by an adjustment range, so every percent adjusted makes a massive difference. You've just sent 40% of all your braking to the rear wheels, in a front-engined car. The RPM should only be adjusted if your horsepower is maintained past the rev limiter. You can use the torquecurve UI app to check. I usually leave 500 RPM past the peak power (or 250 if it drops fast). Lastly, for whatever reason, the race tires in BeamNG have the most grip at 25 PSI. Some lighter cars might feel unstable with that much grip, so raising the pressure to 25.5 or 26 helps with that. That's what should always be tuned first in BeamNG, so you make sure you're getting the most out of your tires. The slight understeer on turn-in may have been completely fixed just by adjusting the tire pressure alone. (Make sure not to go under 24.5 for race tires, as they lose grip and act weird with lower pressures).
@AkimboBeta
@AkimboBeta 2 жыл бұрын
More in-depth: To make sure your brake bias is correct, remove ABS in the parts menu and disable Arcade ABS in settings (if enabled). In the gameplay options, make sure the "start race brakes preheated" option is selected. If not, select it and then press Ctrl + R to reset your vehicle. If the vehicle is AWD or 4WD, change the transfer case to 2WD. Once you've done that, drive the car up to a high speed, let off the gas (stay in-gear and do not clutch-in) and begin to ease onto the brakes until they lock. Reset the car and continue doing, braking faster and harder until 2 wheels lock (this is because the bias may be correct when there isn't a lot of weight transfer happening). Keep in mind that all four wheels should lock-up when the brakes are fully pressed, so only press hard enough to lock one set of wheels. Once you've determined which wheels lock first, adjust the brake bias in the opposite direction, and test again. Do not adjust more than 5% at a time. After you've tuned both the front and rear wheels to lock at the same time, now you can adjust your brake bias. Make an adjustment of 1% in your desired direction and test that around a track. At most, only adjust 3% away from the wheels locking equally. Remember that BeamNG adjusts the entire brake strength by a full percentage, most games only adjust brake bias by a fraction of a percent at a time.
@AkimboBeta
@AkimboBeta 2 жыл бұрын
As for raising the redline, like I stated, use the torquecurve UI app to reference your vehicle's powerband. Some of the cars have a soft limiter, so max-out the rev limiter and then look at the horsepower graph. Adjust the redline accordingly, usually having about 500 RPM of headroom, or 1000 RPM in very high-revving cars. Different long blocks have different characteristics, and because the engines bounce off the limiter, they may rev past their safe rev range for a split second. A 250 RPM adjustment should prevent that from ever happening.
@AkimboBeta
@AkimboBeta 2 жыл бұрын
And as for tires, 25 PSI is the go-to for standard, sport and race tires. 8.1 PSI is the current sweet spot for drag slicks. Rally and off-road tires used to work best with 18 - 22 PSI, but that is constantly changing, so don't take those numbers at face value. If your car is tipping-over and/or bouncing, that may be a number of reasons. Tire pressure/grip levels is one of them. If you're experiencing that, try raising the tire pressure by 1 PSI and test again. If you want grip, don't go above 28.5 PSI. If your car is still tipping over, use smaller tires. If it's still hopping around, try smaller tires or adjusting your suspension settings.
@Freezorgium
@Freezorgium 2 жыл бұрын
you say that but obviously the brake bias he adjusted to worked for him
@AkimboBeta
@AkimboBeta Жыл бұрын
@@Freezorgium If you look at 16:05, he's not even using half the braking power, yet the car nearly stalls on him. Unfortunately he hid the brake axis throughout the rest of the video, but he is seriously hindering his braking performance. BeamNG should add live-adjustable brake bias in the future. Even the difference in weight between a full fuel tank and a nearly-empty one can change the balance of the car enough to affect your braking distance by 10 meters or more. Because there's no brake pressure biasing whatsoever, BeamNG vehicles are very sensitive to grip changes under braking. That's why so many cars can lock 1 wheel up, and also why it is crucial to adjust your brake bias properly.

As an American, my favorite part of Beam is throwing horsepower at cars. The anti lag mod is the best because it lets you set boost to 99 psi (6.8 BAR) So you can push literally any engine to its breaking point. I wish beam had more realistic failures such as valve float grenading pistons on interference engines and more realistic head gasket/head bolt failures. But that’s just me. Beam is tied with AC for my favorite sim.

I assume you either have the SUPERNOS mod and use their rads or the super radiators mod, otherwise the fun doesn't last. Also, the more superchargers mod is even more insane because it installs the supercharger from the additional modifications, then you can also have a stage 4 turbo/supercharger on the engine tab and tune both at the max. It's not rare to produce over 10000 HP

If I understand it right, Negative camber would be used when you expect the suspension to be squeezed when you need traction, the wheels would be pushed more parallel to the road under the body torque/g-forces, so when if the rear goes down when accelerating or the car leans out pressing on the suspensions on one side in turns. That depends on the suspension geometry though, if the wheels don't pivot and just move parallel, then the results are essentially the opposite, and even worse if the linkage makes the wheel pivot in reverse to the rotation of the linkage.

13:40 in the automotive landscape, this is actually the norm. you go toe out on the driven axle to straighten the tires under power. and to stabilize the car at high speed, you give the undriven axle toe in. at least that's the case in the OEM/day to day consumer world of cars (professional car mechanic speaking) maybe it's because I don't have any clue about racing setups, but you're doing the opposite of what I consider normal xD

Say for example you are chasing someone and get into his slipstream, if you topped out before now you have an artificial limit to your top speed and can't use the slipstream for overtaking. In some racing cars there's like a WHOLE GEAR that the car doesn't reach unless you are behind someone!

that corner exit almost spin was maybe due to tire temp not being implemented. Arent the tires always cold? Aero is fine in beamng afaik.

ok what i actually love is your expertise. you know your sh*t and i can actually learn from you. and you look as nearly as good as i do. and i like your audio background. you always sound good. what i dont like is the video quality. a bit too much noise, artifacts and stuff. i wanted to tell you to upscale and/or upload to 2k or 4k but you already do. so i think you could change your bitrate settings? dont know. but actually this is complaining on an extremely high and professional level. i love your videos and content. keep on going mate. oh and: luv ya!

This is what I wanted to hear! And your evil friend CarMighty must be writing that down intensely! Can I apply this guide for sims like Raceroom, iRacing, and RF2? The wheel alignments, I want to know how much degree it is. Would it be 4.0% to 4.0 deg?
@Ferrari255GTO
@Ferrari255GTO 2 жыл бұрын
Most things do apply, no 4% isn't 4 degrees, it's 4% of the possible adjustable range on the car, if you wanna see the specific data about camber, caster and all theese things on BeamNG you need to open the suspension debug menu.
