In this video, we’ll talk about pitch correction. We’ll discuss the differences between extreme auto-tuning (the "T-Pain" effect) and more transparent pitch correction. By the end of this video, you’ll know how to use REAPER’s built-in ReaTune plugin to correct the pitch of a single note OR an entire track.

I love how straight-forward and natural this plug-in works. I've had Reaper for years and still discovering new wonders like this stock plug-in. I worked on a project where I had to comp the vocals to some takes that were not the best for excitement and intensity yet I had to go with those because the more energetic ones were somewhat off tune. Now I wish I'd used this baby, but I'll know what to do next time I'm in a similar situation. Thanks for this clear and informative video!

I have found that I can also use auto tune in Reatune then flip on manual and correct only the notes that auto did not get. Still not exactly on pitch for all of the notes, but easier than using manual all the way thru. I don't think it used to work like that. Also thanks for reminding me to change from 250 downward. That helps.

I am currently a student at FSW state college. Seeking an AS in Audio Recording & Technologies. Began the course learning ProTools. However, Hurricane IAN caused so much damage to the school building it has forced us to shift over to learning Reaper until the school building is repaired and we can assume in person classes. I am extremely impressed with Reaper. I have enjoyed learning this software and particularly working with video projects using it. While I still prefer to learn ProTools, as it is an Industry standard, I will likely be using REAPER at home. It is an intuitive program and makes using it, fun. I encourage everyone who may be seeking a good program for home studio and DIY work, to choose Reaper. You wont be sorry. Plus, most of the techniques you might know from other programs, can more than likely be applied to Reaper. Trust me. Its worth the effort.

Excellent and clear demonstration. But if I make any tempo changes to my song, or ripple edits, this ReaTune timeline will need to be completely reconstructed. Any way around that?
@Audiohackr
@Audiohackr 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! You can get around this by applying the FX directly to the audio item. Click on the audio item you want to tune, and press Shift+E (or right click and choose "Take > Show FX chain for active take"). You can add FX directly to the audio item that way. You should be able to move that item around, and the FX applied this way will stay with the item. Cheers!

Hi, I'm wondering why (if the harmony is basically, or mostly parallel 3rds that you don't transpose the whole track or section (which should sound more natural) then fix the problems with major and minor thirds to match the key. so you' d repair less notes. I'd try transposting a major 3rd, and a minor third and see which one requires less repair. Without trying it my guess would be that the minor third transposition might be "better" and require less moving of individual notes.

Thanks for watching! I recorded this song from the ground up, and I knew that the song was in the key of C major. If you don't know the key of the song, you can leave ReaTune in its default state (A chromatic). As long as you're close enough to the correct note, it should work well.

@Audiohackr
@Audiohackr 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I certainly recommend trying out REAPER. There's a 60 day free trial, so you have nothing to lose. As for improving your voice, there's only so much the software can do. If you want to improve your voice check out Eric Arceneaux's channel: kzbin.info If you sing in tune and in time but the recording sounds bad, you need to spend some money on an audio interface and a mic. If you spend just $200 on those two items, you'll notice a huge difference in the sound of your recordings. Check out these videos for some introductory info on microphones and audio interfaces: Audio Interface Basics - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHOme4hsmJKGf6s Microphone Basics - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYvbf2yqbblkmdE Best of luck!

Hi. Thanks for the video. Does ReaTune do all that Melodyne does? I want to buy Melodyne to work with Reaper, but if ReaTune does all the job it wouldn't be necessary. What's your opinion? Thanks
@Audiohackr
@Audiohackr 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! ReaTune is not a replacement for Melodyne. Melodyne does more than just tune notes. Using Melodyne you can adjust vibrato, timing and volume of individual notes, as well as separate pitch from timbre. However, before you go out and buy Melodyne, try doing as much correction with ReaTune as you can. You might be surprised at how well it works! I own Melodyne, but I often try correcting tuning issues with ReaTune first. Cheers!

I like the plug in but this is one of the things about Reaper vs Cubase that is not drawing me away from Cubase. Cubase's pitch edit software seems to be much more malleable - in particular it's the detailed vibrato control that really stands out - sadly Reaper doesn't seem to be able to acheive the same level of usability. I really do want to migrate to Reaper however as I'm sick of having to use my USB dongle all the time.
@Audiohackr
@Audiohackr 7 жыл бұрын
I find the simplicity of REAPER's ReaTune plugin a feature! The results are usually very transparent, I use ReaTune most of the time when I need to do some vocal or instrument tuning. For times I need (or want) to adjust things like vibrato, I use Melodyne. These are all just tools, and you just need to the find the one that works best for you. Thanks for watching!
@Yer_Da_
@Yer_Da_ 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Melodyne is the real deal too, but even that pales in comparison to Cubase's VariAudio mainly because it's so perfectly integrated into Cubase. Reaper is fantastic but as I say it's not pulling me away quite yet.

Thanks for watching! ReaTune is likely fine. It sounds like ReaTune is having a hard time catching the pitch of the notes you're trying to tune. This can happen if there's too much background noise on the vocal track. If you continue to have problems, I recommend posting on the REAPER forum (forum.cockos.com/). There are lots of helpful people there. Cheers!

interesting, how can I make items on one track with different colors and how to make those markers upstairs (Verse 1, 2, Chorus, etc)? Never seen both
@Audiohackr
@Audiohackr 8 жыл бұрын
+Anti Phase Thanks for watching! To manually change the colours of items on a track, right click on the item you want to change colour, then go to "Item takes and colors" > "Set items to costom color...". Here you can choose the colour you want that item to be. FYI - In our example, the items on the vocal track are different colours because they are from different takes. By default REAPER colour codes each take with unique, random colour. To make the verse, chorus markers in the timeline, please watch this video where I explain how to do just that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJCWmIWNq8Z3irM

+Audiohackr Thanks! I watched that video, and the only thing goes wrong: when I select the region and then click in the Region\Marker Manager window to make a new region, it applies it to the whole track and ignores my selection. Am I doing something wrong?
@Audiohackr
@Audiohackr 8 жыл бұрын
+Anti Phase It sounds like you're selecting an item and not the timeline. You have to make sure you've made the selection in the timeline. You can tell what part of the song is selected by seeing the small triangles on either side of the highlighted selection in the timeline. If you're selection is correct, instead of going directly to the Region/Marker Manager, try using the command under the Insert menu, "Region (from time selection)". That will create an unnamed region from your time selection. That should show up in the Region/Marker manager that you can rename after it's created.

actually it doesn`t work. The only way it works is to create region the size of the whole song and then fit it to my selection manually.

+Anti Phase I suggest posting a question in the Cockos forum (forum.cockos.com/). I'm sure someone there will be able to help you out. Cheers!

Thank you very much ! but i think it was hard to judge the vocal as there was an organ with an over the top "seasick" vibrato at the same time, which made everything sound out of key. It would have been easier as a listener without it
