on the 150 hp plug change you mention problemmatic no. 4 plug removal you breeze right by that. What do you use to get that no.4 plug out? That the hardest part of the maintaince.

To help get the spark plug back in .....fit a short piece of old fuel hose over end of plug and start the thread by hand and if you did cross thread it the hose would simply slip and do no damage .works with hard to get at bolts as well

A socket extension Flexi joint is used so you can nip up the plug after you have hand screwed in the plug to ensure it doesn't go in cross threaded.

There must be a mistake when it comes to the spark plug gap - ”8 mm” should probably be ”0,8 mm”.

Hi, good video for a diy person. I have a older 75 Mercury Outboard motor, 2 stroke. My transom is bad and pulling apart on my Blue Fin 17'10 Sportsman's boat. I want to take my motor off and fix transom. I know how to take most of the controls/fittings off from my motor. But I am nervous about unhooking the throttle system. I'm not a mechanic, but can get thru minor problems. Can you tell me how to unhook the throttle system, or tell me where I could find a video to do that? I have been looking all over on KZbin but most don't go that far to show how too. Not on a Mercury anyways. Thank you for taking the time to show these videos.

What’s the trick to removing that lower plug?
@jeremytoms96982 жыл бұрын
Same as what others have written. I use a deep socket version of the spark plug socket, small extender on a socket wrench installed in that order. Reverse the process to reinstall the plug. I just have Canadian Tire Mastercraft tools, but I'm sure Snap-On makes tools that'll make it more of a breeze. I find fogging the 4th cylinder to be the real pain... That's the trick I want to know!

When is the first oil change on the 150 mercury? Im asking cuz i just bought me 1 at like 20 hrs im talking about break in
@Tylnorton3 жыл бұрын
100 hours/Once a year. If you're on a colder climate where you store your boat for the winter, it's best you change oil every fall if you don't exceed 100 hours of run time that year.

@@edwardabrahamiii3742 Yeah so definitely change oil when you're done using it for the season. You CAN do it do it in spring but I recommend you to change your gear oil in the fall because any water that gets in the gear housing can freeze and ruin the gears in winter.

Did you ever figure out a good way?
@antoinephillips3 жыл бұрын
For me (no prior experience) I was able to get it pretty easily using the spark plug socket, a small extender, and then the drive socket wrench. I added each incrementally after first placing the socket over the spark plug, feeling for the position with my hand, then adding the extender, then attaching the drive socket wrench to fit it all in. Worked pretty well. My Mercury 115hp is running great now! completely cleared up hesitation I was getting with old plugs (last changed 3 years ago)

I'm a little late to this thread, but most spark plug sockets have the hex flats on them for a reason; so you can use a simple open or closed in wrench when in tight spaces without needing a socket wrench.
