I used to work for Pantone. Please be aware that Pantone books are just a reference not a standard. The colors DO change from book to book and books age with time Technically, you should buy new books every year. The pay wall thing is understandable with todays never ending quest for corporate profits, especially since they are owned by a publicly traded company. Anyway, great video. For sure! They are a reference tool that is more accurate than all the different screens in the world with different color temps, saturation, and contrast settings. We agree you should update pantone books regularly. Scott, Thanks for watching and sharing some knowledge with everybody!!

In my day job, when Adobe updated to the newer Adobe CC, the pantones disappeared from Illustrator. As a workaround, I researched online and found that you can go to an older Illustrator or Photoshop installation, find the old pantone palettes and copy them to your new CC versions folder. It works if you MUST use pantone for printing.

Such a great and simple point!! I did some Googling as well once I learned just yesterday that my Photoshop '24 is also not showing the solid coated and uncoated pantone options. Downloaded an old version and got the pantone colors I need. Didn't even think to just copy the books until your comment. Thanks so much!

How do you handle the Pantone colour changing so drastically, especially if the design is needing to match something else?

IMO, compromise. You can't fit a square peg in a round hole. Sometimes, an exact match isn't possible.

Illustrator: edit, edit colors, recolor artwork, select # of colors, select color book (something like that)

I appreciate this video, but I am trying to convert f6f3e8 to a PMS Coated. It is not working... following your instructions, it is choosing a very pale lavender instead of the light cream I am after.

this TUT is out of date now that PS got rid of all of this. does anyone know how to find the PANTONE in PS for 2024? why would they get rid of such an important piece of info. that all PS users use!! like what???

Yeah.... unless you run an older version of PS or AI - I don't think I've seen so many negative reviews on a plugin as I see on the Pantone Connect Plugin. People are not happy bob, not happy.
