I’ve been using the Trace Bitmap tool in Inkscape for this. It’s not as simple as what you’ve shown here, but it gives you a lot more control when making the svg

Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for this tutorial! I made myself nuts trying to weed out a logo my son did for his band last year, infact I had to switch to print then cut because I couldn't deal with it! Lol. They've even since changed their logo lol! But also was trying to figure out contour on another project the other day and just gave up.
