Learn how to turn just about anything into a lamp with my simple tutorial where I upcycle an old German WW2 oil lamp into a beautiful pendant lamp with 3 core braided flex & torpedo switch. First I restore the lamp & seal it before wiring up the electrics.
Please give me a thumbs up if you like the video & subscribe :D
Materials & equipment used:
Oil lamp from www.dortonreclaim.com
Bicarb soda
wire wool
scouring pad
old toothbrush
120 grit fine sandpaper
water
small & normal phillips & flat head screw drivers
flex stripper or stanley blade
lampholder www.lampsandlights.co.uk
hollow threaded bar (M10)
torpedo/rocker switch
plug
Vintage style filament bulb - eBay
nuts & washers (M10)
3 core braided flex
Simonz acrylic lacquer - Halfords
(Disclaimer - It is your responsibility to wire electrics properly, I take no responsibility for any accidents occurring from improper wiring after watching this video!)

I know some collectors who are still weeping after watching this WWII German lamp build! Nice job!! LOL! Perhaps you've not only created an awesome, but you've also shed some light on the whole death collector industry! Wooo! Welfare Batman approves! Jack

Might have been easier to just clan lamp with a curved wire brush, and then simply wax it? Also should mention not spraying aerosols indoors, without adequate ventilation, and a mask, finally you cannot sell any item you make, unless it has been tested and approved by a Qualified Electrician.

Really good instructions, just in the process of renovating a ships searchlight and wanted to wire in a LED bulb. Just wanted to confirm how to wire it in and you confirmed it. Thanks ChrisN

Cheap tip from Welfare Batman dude guy - buy one of those cheap $7 battery toothbrushes to cut down the cleaning labor by half! I'm not just another manly, handsome "some say gorgeous" amazing, mojo monster, chick magnet... i'm also an egotesticle l , arrogant, narcissists, B.S.- ing tipster in my spare time...so...ya. Jack

I liked your explanations of the process you go through and how you decide things like not completely removing all the rust from the lantern. I'm just finding my interest in lamp making so processes and decision making interest me as much as techniques. Great video!

I am really pleased I came across your channel, I have gone a little crazy because we (my wife and I are now following you on Twitter and watching the back catalogue of videos on you tube. I have also added your website to my favourite list but I haven't had time to check it out yet. Cool Mannequin in the back ground.. In the old days for plains wood tool etc. a fine rubbing of boild linseed oil would seal the metal from rusting. Also after oxidizing a sculpture, one can seal with same stuff.. Not as appealing as red rust but... If you want to get the rust off safely completely you can soak part in a vat of 1 part Molasses 9 parts water for 2 weeks. the part will come out grayish looking void of rust, The vat will last up to 7 months. If needed. Just saying.
