Hola everyone! Thanks for watching 💚 In the description you'll find a few resources on how to deal with climate anxiety. This was not an easy topic to talk about, since we don't want to make it feel too easy. Looking forward to hear from you which advice was helpful and what was missing? Cheers!

One year ago I felt I was at a breaking point, where I had learned so much about the problems ahead of us with the climate crisis while political leadership still lacked the necessary sense of action. At a point where I knew enough, grew more and more frustrated and had climate anxiety, I decided to change something. I decided to join my local group of Students For Future. While FFF organizes strikes, other for future groups try to get into detailed action and push certain players to change something. And you can change things much more easily at the local level. As I found out, the group I joined was pretty active with a lot of work groups. We work on change in our university, are in talks with the local energy provider, have a group tackling mobility developments here, and so much more. It's pretty amazing seeing the action and power from us come together to just try changing things. Also, the institutions we talk to are much more open to do so. All of this has helped me getting out of the sense of doom and not doing anything. I would really recommend everyone to check what environmental or climate groups are in your area and how you can help them or engage in certain areas you are interested in with their help. I have also joined a political party after the Bundestagswahl, since I see the need to truly change something about the systemic workings of capitalism. I hope this will grow into sth bigger in the future. Concerning inspiration, I learned about the genre of Solarpunk a few months ago with a video from Our Changing Climate. This theme of a sustainable and just future has since given me so much hope and made me understand that we have to overcome doomerism to get to such a future and that we can only make it there together. I hope this helps anyone out there to truly turn this anxiety and doomerism into action. We have everything to lose, but a future to win! Let's go!

So I am pretty introverted but I also don’t want to feel so helpless. Small actions really do make an impact. I know it’s hard but starting a conversation about it can really have an impact. You would be surprised how many people are receptive to information if delivered accordingly. It’s also surprising to find out that there are so many people feeling the same way but also feel so alone in those feelings.

Hi Maria! Thanks for your comment. Indeed, once you start talking to people, you realize how many are also missing someone to talk about it, give them some advice on how to handle their anxiety or just some ideas on how to do things differently. So do share, the video, but mostly your ideas and concerns! Cheers form Berlin!

I think we all are suffering the anxiety right now. I live in Scotland so went on the big protest march at COP26, but since then the results of the conference have been hugely disappointing, and our UK conservative government is so pro business that it is trying to bring back fracking, and encouraging more oil production. But this video has given me hope once again, so thanks Ecosia. BTW, I set up a environment action group more than a year in our local area on Nextdoor but there's been no action from it. But I keep posting in the hope that the people who are members are at least getting regular updates and ideas. I've just shared this vid with the group.

@@kelvinfaulkner3183 great initiative, Kelvin! Remember that it's also not only on you to have the group being active. Maybe you can ask some members to support you in coming up with something tangible and doable that you can together bring to life? Or perhaps the support the group needs right now is just sharing knowledge and advice? Feel the room - and your energy - and don't be afraid to ask for support. Many people are looking for ways to do something and sometimes they just need to be asked because, they too, are paralyzed by anxiety!

Thanks for talking about eco anxiety. It was growing in me for a long time but my pregnancy in 2020 made me feel terribly eco anxious and very depressed. I was so scared about the world I was going to put my child in... I was totally paralyzed. But then I said to myself if I'm depressed and paralyzed in my bed i'm useless for Planet. My child is a big motivation to act as much I as could in my daily life. Anxiety is still here but acting every day reduces it. I feel usefull and more in control, I see the influence I have on my family, friends, and even some colleagues, who see all I do, and change there habits in consequence. I explain why I do this or that (like whashable diapers, bulk food, not taking plane...), I don't judge people, I learned to stay calm (sometimes it's so hard) when I talk about environment with people who don't care, because showing anger or judgment is really counterproductive, whereas you can really change someone's idea if you explain peacefully. It also helps a lot to talk about eco anxiety, you feel less alone ! Thank you Ecosia, you're part of what helps me everyday to keep hope in future.

I wish there would just be less waste, better insulated houses being the standard instead of the exception and instead of offering the wide variety of food in supermarkets maybe we should order what we need to reduce the amount that is wasted. But I feel like I am not well versed or eloquent enough to convince other people to make that change, it is their decision and I am only a customer passing through. Educating myself won't help me convince someone else even when I am convinced we'd both benefit from it if only they were willing to accept a change. I thank Ecosia for what you do, it does help me feeling like I am contributing just a bit to mitigation of the problem.

Thanks for watching and thank you for your comment! I'm sorry to hear that this advice couldn't make you feel empowered. I will take this into account for a future video where we can look together into how these areas you mentioned are progressing. In the meantime, please let us underline that it really, really, really does make a difference if you decide to contribute around your community in whatever way you can to create that replicable community action Pachamama Alliance describes. It can still feel very frustrating sometimes, because you don't see the impact immediately, but it makes a difference to inspire others to see how things can be done differently. And when we don't have the energy to do so ourselves, we can join other movements or individuals trying to make that change.

Its a bitter truth that the society is extremely narrow-minded ,because if someone starts a motion for saving water or nature or wildlife, the society regards the person as crazy. I hope soon such mentality would be forgotten and people will come to know that endangering nature also endangers them.

When friends who haven't touched a bike in decades get onto one of my ebikes, they tell me they would ride it every day. A 10 mile work or school commute is possible on an ebike. One problem the options under $1k just aren't worth it for serious riders, and most folks don't have a $2k+ budget for something better. Some folks do have $1500 or so for a midrange Rad, but many people won't spend that much until they've ridden one. That's why I bought a Biktrix and built 2 extra ebikes from used bike with DIY kits. I ride all of them and I have bikes to ride w/ friends.

Thanks for this great content. Anxiety is the worst, i have been there. My recommendation: You cannot control everything around you and we have to live with some level of uncertainty, start with your control circle: your own actions, and try to expand it with time and effort. Breathing is key also. It teaches us what we really can control.

An energy efficient home or business is more comfortable and saves money in the long run. Solar energy on your roof combined with battery storage can make people more independent from the grid and natural gas supplies. Add solar and supplemental electric heating or a heat pump for home or business heating.. All big box stores and manufacturing sites can support solar energy on their roofs or parking lots. Added insulation, double or triple glaze windows, energy efficient doors, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, energy efficient appliances, LED lighting, smart thermostats, solar panels combined with battery storage and a electric vehicle charger in the garage or car park. People are too focused on the short term costs and miss out on long term savings and comfort. Blower door testing and air sealing are under appreciated tools.Even if you have money to burn you should not waste it. Climate Change will impact everyone. Leave a better future for your children and grandchildren. Join in and speak up for the future of the plane

Here are some other things you can do 🙋🏼‍♀️ Walk, cycle, or use public transport rather than using a car. Buy second hand goods preferably from charity shops. You can buy clothes, books, DVDs, furniture, electronic goods, and so many other things second hand from charity shops. Remember, whilst climate anxiety is a horrible thing, just keep in mind many people are taking action. Solar panels are cheaper than fossil fueled power plants. They are also becoming even more efficient. Wind turbines are improving. Geothermal energy plants and battery storage technology are both rapidly improving. Soon it will be cheaper to build geothermal energy plants and they don't need fuel making them potentially far more profitable than any fossil fueled power plants.

Please when you take action, make sure your action will do what you expect. For climate it is about reducing CO2 emissions. Every single thing we make as humans currently emits CO2. You want to act and it is really what we need! But if your actions do not really have an effect on co2 emission it is pointless. I would just add one thing to this video, you have to count how much co2 emission you will avoid by taking action. For instance solar panel are not always the smartest thing to do. If they are made in China it will be with coal, which emit co2. It will not employ people from your country (except if you are chinese of course!). Then with those panel you will avoid using some electricity. You have to know how much it emits, and for how long solar panel will be used. Then you take into account the transport and assembly of the panel... You do the simple maths: you compare the numbers "Emission without panel" and "Emission with panel". And then you see how much money you use for this. It will give you the cost of one ton of co2 emission avoided... That way you see wether it really do what you want (reduce emissions). And with the cost you can see how different methods compare to each other. In France, where electricity is pretty much decarbonised (thanks to nuclear power mainly), buyng chinese solar panel will emit more co2 than if you did not... :/ which would be ... ironic. May be buying some electric bicycles to replace cars is more efficient. How do we know? We have to make the maths...

This is something I feel very deeply. Thank you for calling attention to it and share ways of dealing with climate anxiety. Two years ago I jumped head first into climate activism, and while it good to be doing something meaningful, it also stressed me out and I found that I was in over my head. I ended up getting a depression (there were, of course, a lot of other contributing factors, so I don't want to blame the activism, but it amplified my stress level). Now I'm trying to find my own way, but it's hard. I talk about the climate situation A LOT and I think it's making an impression - for instance, my dorm mates have been inspired to eat more meat free dishes and have told me that our conversations sparked that interest. I also put an effort into finding fun ways of upcycling ruined clothes and sheets - my own and stuff I found in charity shops. I know it's not much. Nothing feels like it is enough. That's rough. Besides, we live in a stressful capitalistic society that is unfortunately designed to wear us out too much to engage in the climate action that is needed. But I still have hope when I see so many giod people fighting for our planet ❤

I agree and it does help those things there is proof and all and it would be great if more people could, which they are for sure beginning to, but I believe that we shouldn’t cut out anything all together, we need a balanced diet, that means not too little of something but also of course as you said not too much of one thing, unhealthy diets, restrictive diets and veganism can cut out allot, however I believe that we should have meat days and veggie and vegan days and minimising based on our individual bodies needs and lifestyle. I think just generally being more mindful of everything, what you are eating, where it is from, etc and also by knowing what you eat is good for you but that you don’t have to not eat anything too, I think in too much extremes those mindsets can be harm full and that really you just need to be aware of everything better. However I do agree and respect you opinions and it is completely valid as everyone is aloud to do what they want, though I think some of the problem is people not coming together enough. Okay that’s enough rant about the world 😂 thanks ☺️

Fantastic video. Your best yet! Great work. Now, let's everyone share it! I'm looking for ways to make our work more coherent - so we all write emails to the same person at the same time or we all sign the same petition at the same time. If we work together we can have a lot more impact. Can we get groups to coordinate better?

Hi there! Thanks for your comment. You are absolutely right in that we need a structural change of how our economies work in order to have a greater impact. But that change will not happen without the collaboration of us all and, most importantly, without all of us imagining a better future in order to push for it. Hope that makes sense. In case it's useful, I'm sharing a link to another Climate Brief episode we did a while back ago on how to individually have a more structural impact: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHSXnGWigbute7M . Cheers!

Hi Ecosia :3 I am a minor and I’m trying to find out how I can take action to help climate change. I’ve been dealing with climate anxiety lately and I’m not sure where to start. This video helped me a little bit, but if you could give me some personal tips that would be great ❤
@Ecosia
@Ecosia 7 ай бұрын
Hi Cassia 💚 We're sorry to hear that you’re dealing with climate anxiety and we appreciate you sharing this with us. First of all, it’s completely normal to feel this way, we also feel it from time to time. While it’s difficult for us to give personal tips since we don’t know you and your situation personally, we strongly recommend talking to people you trust about these feelings. Trusted adults can also help guide you on whether and how to seek psychological support. Generally, climate anxiety can often make you feel paralysed, making it hard to take action. Speaking with friends and adults who you can trust and who can "carry" these feelings with you, can make you feel less alone with it. This is hard for us do online, even though we would love to do it for everyone of you watching our videos! 💚 Additionally, this resource could be helpful: www.greenpeace.org.uk/news/climate-anxiety-resources-to-energise-action/ We hope this helps!

Of course, doing your bit is extra important in this day and age because who wants to by blood oil (used to fund Putin's invasion of Ukraine)? That is a major reason to shift away from fossil fuels as much as possible, too, at least right now.
