Essential oils can and will remove varnish, for example, if spilt on furniture. They can also play havoc with some plastics or plastic coatings on items. I'll keep an eye out in my local store for this product (I'm in Australia) and will certainly give it a go. Thanks for the info and experimentation results. Fascinating! It's working like a solvent. P.S. Okay, I used some neat Eucalyptus essential oil, put about 1 ml (about 20 drops) onto a ceramic saucer, and with a cotton tip, (fairly soaked) was able to smudge colours on a magazine that has thinner pages; it didn't work as well on a calendar image because it had a different finish to the junk mail print. Best not to use neat essential oils with bare hands - so cotton tips or cotton buds recommended. Neat 100% essential oil will perish rubber gloves and even plastic gloves really quickly, so not useful to use. Lavender essential oil, in fact any essential oil would work as a solvent, used this way, but may be expensive overall, if doing large areas or lots of pages (but they'd smell great, repel insects and act as anti-virals in the air). The other issue, if decanting some essential oil, is that they will evaporate quickly, and it's strongly advised not to use them neat like this anywhere near naked flame - and of course, avoid a plastic container; a pottery or ceramic small dish would work, like a ramekin. Not knowing what the other ingredients are in the Orange Power product, essential oils could be regarded as "safer" for people who suffer chemical allergies, but that would have to go on an oil by oil basis, according to the person. Some people get migraines from strong scents (which isn't an allergy, but a sensitivity). It would be interesting to find out how much time elapses before the strong scent fades from any pages. PPS (lol) There was very little bleed-through to the back of the page from the essential oil used. Almost none. And because of the evaporation rate of neat essential oil, the paper dried quickly.

In the States, we have something called Goo-B-Gone and I wonder if that would work like yours. Good DIY tip!

CitraSolv is the product most folks use. Easy to get here in the states, but not elsewhere. Try orange essential oil, too. I use it straight to remove sticky places, etc. Love your ideas!

I wonder if "Orange Clean," with orange oil would work. Going to see what I might have that would work similarly. Great tip, thx!

I just found your videos and love your work! I wonder how strong the smell is on the paper after it dries? I can't imagine it is archive safe. Fun for your application!

Unfortunately the beautiful orange citrus scent doesn't last very long at all. Because citrus is an acid, I assume it wouldn't be archive safe as it is, but you could apply a coat of sealant over the top of the paper - perhaps that might preserve it.

What an interesting idea. I am in the USA, so don't know what product I can find other than Goo Gone, which seems to have an oily base. Maybe that won't matter?

"Citrisol" or something similar in name to that was mentioned during the above video. Maybe that can be found through Amazon? Maybe under "Solvents"?
