It's honestly one of the largest areas we got robbed on with Skyrim. Took them 6 years to make Skyrim and, while still a good game, they really could've done a whole lot better with city building and quest lines. For example, the war was way too short and straightforward.

Yeah when you look at what the Witcher 3 achieved just 4 years later, even Oxenfurt seems to be atleast twice as big and lively and Novigrad just bombs all the Skyrim Cities combined out of the water. When i first started Skyrim back in the days, i thought: "wait that is a City? the Core of Skyrim, the Central Hub etc...? Looks like a glorified village to me! when i think of my rather small City of origin and the medieval Wall surrounding it, the gates, the trenches surrounding them...this small city's core is almost 800 years old and yet its bigger than Whiterun!"

Whiterun drops to 40 fps ~no matter what mods you are running~ even with no enb and I have an rtx 3070. After further research into the issue I have discovered some of the issues. Don't run HDT physics on the cloaks that NPCs wear or physics on NPCs boobas. From there if you have no city overhaul mods than your cities will be butter smooth with no stutters, but if you throw on JK's skyrim, you will start to get stutters even with no enb. It's not a hardware issue, it's an engine limitation and has to do with the number of draw cells being processed. You become cpu bottlenecked and your gpu usage goes way down. Having a really good cpu does not really help, since the game runs most things on a single core (I have used both a ryzen 5 3600 and a ryzen 9 3900x and no difference). Draw cells in cities are much higher than in the wilds. A good balance is to only have JK's Skyrim; you will get some stutters, but not too bad and fps mostly stays in the 50s. If you want to throw on more city overhauls combined with JK's Skyrim, then you will have worse fps no matter what and worse stutters.

This is an update, but for anyone watching this video who attempts to replicate what is done here. If you upgraded to anniversary edition, there is likely to be an incompatibility between Whiterun Expansion Redone and the new Tundra Home that comes with the anniversary edition. Just something to keep in mind.

You're my new favourite skyrim mod reviewer, I love the emphasis on SE mods because all other chanels would concentrate on oldrim mods or a mix of both which makes it so difficult to find mods. For Xbox users here is what I was able to put together. Whiterun Expansion Redone. Capital Whiterun Expansion Exterior Compatibility Version - no planks. Fortified Whiterun. JK's Skyrim AIO. Fortified Whiterun - JK's Skyrim patch. Dark's Whiterun Market. Whiterun Market - JK's AiO Patch. That my load order right now. Wall of Whiterun needs a patch for it to work correctly, too much clipping. As is there is a lot spots you'll find in the city that are clipping. Should work fine with any retexture you want to use.

This expansive mod does sound good. Mainly cause of the expanded mercantile stuff and having proper walls. I generally don't care for mods that simply change textures, graphics, and "immersion" but doesn't actually add any loot or quests. This one does add loot but also does the other stuff that people seem to like. So if they could do that with all other cities then would be worthwhile.

Whiterun is supposed to be the trading center of the entire province, and yet it's barely larger than Riverwood just up the hill, with barely anything to indicate it's supposed to be a trading center. Bethesda drops balls all the time, but i feel Whiterun is one the bigger ones.

For some reason JKSkyrim and Dawn of Skyrim still dont like each other when I use them even with the patch, Solitude and Whiterun keeps having conflicting structures and trees. When it just comes to the Bard College with how the statues are in the planters, they at least look passably good, go to the market however and find out that a stone structure and a market stall have completely merged and keeps the one who owns said stall stuck inside. Also feels Legendary, man...

Now even a dragon wouldn't risk on attacking Whiterun 😊 I remember running from a wild high level atronack (spelling ). Hid in Rorikstead, every npc got obliterated. Hid in Falkrieth, witnessed a triple semi-instant homicide. This modified megahold would've handled my problem, no sweat.

Was wondering if it would be possible to do a tutorial video so not just showing the finished product of what the game looks like after installing the mods but a full fledged tutorial showing how to properly install mods, do all the debugging and getting the game running as smooth as possible. Just a video idea. ..... Personally I like the satisfaction of figuring this stuff out myself but once in a while I would love to get a guide to just get things going instead of having to spend hours reading and doing trial and error.

Mods do make Skyrim look like a 2020 game, but at the expense of skyrim ambience immersion, which just cannot be explained. But mods do improve the graphics and add expansions to the cities.

It does tick me off that Whiterun is small even tho it's the central city of Skyrim, making it more important economically and strategically. It has the most farms and pasture land for food. So move over Solitude, Whiterun should have been the capital.
