How to unlock and root the LG G5 RS988 for Verizon

man you literaly revived my rs988, finally ill get rid of lg's rom, I'm installing RR unofficial. Sadly RS988 doesnt have official support from lineage os and those famous custom roms

Your videos helped me gettimg twrp & supersu which i rooted. But now twrp&supersu is gone after reboot, also i can't install apps from 3rd party or Google play.

I made it to the end, but the mobile internet didn't work so i thought that was probably that the bootloader was unlocked. So i did fastboot oem lock and now the device won't boot. It is on a cicle that says "Your device is corrupt. It cannot be trusted and will not boot". I can't enter the device though adb neither fastboot, what can i do? any ideas? lg bridge in download mode wont work too

@@striker1211 Yeah i made it to the recovery (the small white prompt showing in the screen) by pressing volume-up or down key while the error message was being shown while the usb was connected, then i unlocked the bootloader with fastboot and the cellphone booted correctly.

I've got an LG G5 that I seriously and dearly wish to root. When I follow this, the LG Developer website says that my device, an LGRS988.BPT, does not support unlocking the bootloader. I'm disappointed, to say the least, that I've wound up with a seemingly-unrootable phone. Is there any solution out there? Maybe I'll just resell this stupid thing. Anyway, thank you all, and have a wonderful day.

You have a brightpoint version of the rs988. Once upon a time you could unlock it but you will have to check out the xda forums to see if that still works. I have since updated to a us997 (unlocked g6) and wish I would have updated earlier. The g6 blows the g5 out of the water and I haven't had the battery completely die yet in the year I've owned it. I bought an anker Qualcomm quick charge battery pack (since the g6 doesn't have a removable battery) just in case but it hasn't been an issue... Plus the g6 has a much faster GPS lock... Anyways, I got off topic, good luck, I hope a unlock method for the bpt models still exists.

@@striker1211 Thank you kindly for your information. I have indeed desperately tried to Google search for solutions, but I haven't found any truly helpful answers as of yet. I have even tried to boot (not flash) TWRP on there via adb/fastboot, in attempt to install SuperSU, but it would say "unknown command" when trying to boot TWRP, probably because of the bootloader still being locked. Nothing is working so far. I may try some more to search around, and if that doesn't work, we'll see what happens next. It's such a shame because I really like the G5 a lot, but this locked bootloader issue is, as said, disappointing. Regardless, thanks again for your information, and if you find anything helpful, please let me know.

Nice.. Sucks Verizon will no longer allow the RS988 (IMEI)!! I went there today to get a sim and they won't allow it, same goes for the web site when checking BYOP IMEI! I currently have the RS988 on verizon and got one for the wife.. Long story short i'm looking for ways around this...Those Bastards!

Thats because that phone model is hardwired to be on CDMA networks which is being canceled in 2020, The GSM networks is what all the cell phones switch over to.

The dam LG developer website is broken for me. I create an account, log in, and I am prompted to create a nickname for my account. Upon entering a name and pressing the "check availability" button I am kicked back to the login screen every time. No login means no boot unlocker. It's driving me crazy! Anyone have a solution???

The LG website started working for me this afternoon out of the blue, I got my hands on the boot unlocker, followed your directions exactly, and BAM, rooted phone. Thanks for this brocephus!
