frst downgrade your miui to stock version 8. then unlock your phone using mi unlock software . then install twr and your desired rom. i did this with my redmi 4

After booting first time into twrp I clicked recovery as you did and now it's just showing mi screen and it's not booting Never mind fixed it

@KZbinDionysus so it wasn't booting then I just booted my phone into fastboot again and installed twrp again then I booted into twrp and flashed the lazy flasher file and boom its all ok
