How to update Airpods firmware with ONLY a Macbook

A quick tutorial on how to update firmware for Airpods with a Macbook. Most other guides I've seen use iPhones and iPads, but not everyone has an iOS device. This video is for the Airpod users who have a Macbook but nothing else. These instructions probably also work for iMacs, but I haven't tried.

absolutely incorrect, you do not leave the airpods open. With macbook it takes longer to update with open, you close them and leave for 15 minutes, if that doesnt work, take them out, use for 5 minutes, put back in case, and it will work. next you dont need console, just hold down OPTION KEY and press bluetooth icon near clock. Your steps are way way way too complicated and just silly

Thanks for the comment. Your steps are the normal steps found online. Unfortunately, they didn't work for me when I tried. Those steps also don't provide a way to know if the update has started, when it has started, and when it is done. This video shows I was able to solve those problems, even if they may take longer.
