As the title suggests, this is a step-by-step visual tutorial on how to update your Crystal Focus 10-installed Sabertrio saber. This process works for both their Neopixel and upgraded FX sabers, but you need to make sure you pay attention to the two parameters that are mentioned at the beginning of the process if you have the FX saber with a CFX board.
REMINDER: You do NOT need to do this if you buy a Sabertrio saber on Black Friday. They come pre-installed with this already, and this video is for those who haven’t updated their saber in a long time, or for when Sabertrio puts out another Pre-Configuration in the future.

Thanks for this. I think I damaged my sd card by using tweezers to pull it out. At least that's why I think my saber is no longer working. I need to configure a new sd card so this video is very helpful. Hopefully it works

Great video! Followed all your steps and was able to successfully update my Sabertrio Skylar Neo saber. I did have one weird issue where windows kept displaying an error message "USB Device not recognized" every time I tried connecting my saber. My solution was to unplug the cable from the computer and reinsert the cable into the computer about 4 or 5 times until Windows eventually displayed a "Setting up Crystal Focus X" message and finally recognized it.

I mainly use Nick K.'s blade profiles, but with some variations in ignitions and retractions. Google "CFX blade profiles", and you should see a Reddit post or comment from "Pirate_green_beard" with some text files, I just copied and pasted them into my config and went from there!

Hey Lando, love the video! Do you have any knowledge on The Pach Store’s new 100$ smooth swing option? It’s the cheapest one I’ve seen, and in the video they said you are able to upload fonts through the usb-c plug in.

In my Sabertrio Config 4.2 update, I don't have the file boot and boot2 files that you have. However, the saber works fine. I have boot.bmp and boot2.bmp files. I looked at my original configuration (i.e., pre- 4.2 upgrade), and I just have the boot.bmp file. Do you know why? As far as I know, .bmp files are for displays, like you would get on an OLED screen. But when I bought my Mirah, the Senza hadn't come out yet, so I don't why I would have needed a .bmp file. In your root directory, you don't have any .bmp files, but you said you had upgraded to 4.1. So I'm rather confused.

I have no clue on that one to be honest. I never really experimented with all of that so I have no idea about the bmp.

Newer version of the firmware on 4.2 allows you to customize the display picture on the LED which in the soundfont folder, the filename is font.bmp. Works only so far on the Senza with LED display. It just works fine even if you dont have the LED screen otherwise, the image of the font.bmp will appear on your LED screen.

Once you go to open the downloaded Preconfiguration file. You download it from the website, and then you click on it, and it’ll ask you for a password!

Oh man mine is some random no name brand sd card reader I picked up from Walmart or something. Any one you get from the local store is fine as long as it has a Micro SD card port.

mine keeps showing communication port closed! any ideas? now there is absolutely has no power , and its a freshly charged battery! WTF THIS update is a pain in the ass!!!i know how to do the update but never seen a communication port closed. knowing my luck this thing is broken. had nothing but problems with the senza. starting to think i made a bad choice!!!!!!!

Same issue here. Mine keeps saying usb device not recognized on windows so I cant even see the proper COM port in docklight. Did you get it fixed by any chance?

Hi just figured out the issue on my end. I had to plug in the saber into the computer. Remove the battery then hold the aux and activation buttons. Reinsert the battery and wait until the light on the board stopped flashing. Release the 2 buttons. Then windows displays the error USB Device not recognized message. On the saber board the light starts flashing again. So what I did was i kept unplugging and replugging the cable into my computer until eventually Windows gave me a message stating "Setting up Crystal Focus X". Then the light on the saber started to pulse as it should and I could finally select the correct COM port in docklight to update (mine was COM3).

Ok, so I followed all the steps in the update guide. I keep getting the is error DOCKLIGHT reports: General I/O error on COM4 General error while accessing the communication port. And now my saber won’t do anything. Any ideas?

Mine did that too, and I just unplugged it and turned it on. If you remove the battery and replace it, it resets the board, so try that too.

OK so my friend and I are looking for 1st sabers we both don't have that much money to put into it due to more important life matters But we want to upgrade from beating each other with wooden sticks. We are looking for the most durable blade on aluminium hilt. Sound Isn't necessarily important But would be nice. Currently looking at a Pach store Kyojin tiny giant, but it says it only fits the 7/8 mid grade blade included...I don't feel like that blade would stand up to our pace. Any input or suggestions? Would like to keep cost around or below 200 for the pair.

Honestly man, the Pach Store Shiva is one of your best bets, because it’s basically meant for dueling and stunt work. It has 6 retention screws, so you know the blade won’t ever come out while swinging, and you can pair that with a 1” heavy-grade off of their website. This is a very basic stunt saber with no sound, but I’d say that it’s the perfect thing for dueling because it’s so cheap, yet well-made.
