This, in my opinion, is an essential upgrade on this buggy! *Having watched back the video, I have realised it is NOT necessary to remove the break components. You can just leave them on and slide the gearbox cover off- although it does make it a bit easier if they are removed*.

Nice tuto 👍 I own two of these and have changed the spur gear 4+ times (I'll explain in a sec) I would strongly suggest you just undo the four screws on top and jiggle and fiddle the linkages around and out of the way, no resetting brakes, or throttle needed, and be sure to check gear mesh, thats why it stripped for me at least. So from ..from Blue car into Red (red car is main runner) Moved sripped Red one into Blue so it had something covering the gears while I waited for parts, Red aka Blue's plastic back onto blue, steel onto Red and finally steel onto Blue for future proofing 100% essential upgrade, tho I did notice I stripped mine after a crash (engine moved) so checking Gear mesh after a crash might also help, dissapointing.
@TheRCBiker4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like it's keeping you busy! Yes I did adjust the gear mesh as the steel one has different size teeth than the plastic one hence the need to adjust the mesh

No doubt it is a good upgrade but stripped plastic spur gears usually happen when the engine screws come loose and the gears are misaligned, causing the clutch bell to spin against the spur gear and wear the teeth away. My first Inferno Sports that came as a kit (before the RTR's came out), still has the original plastic spur gear.
@Ts-zy4bw2 жыл бұрын
I just ordered one of the RTR Infernos. This is my first voyage into nitro cars (have experience with nitro planes and electric cars). I was planning this mod but if the plastic gear does work as long as I check the engine screws and gear mesh, perhaps it's not needed correct? I was going to go with the MP9 version but I already have the MP9e and for me this is just going to be a basher.

If your mesh is set correctly, and engine stays put, a plastic spur can last for years. I know you identify squarely under the "basher" moniker, but have you ever driven one of your buggies on a proper off road race track? The jumps, the competition with other drivers, it didn't take me too many trips to get hooked on track driving.
@TheRCBiker4 жыл бұрын
depends on the quality of the plastic, this was set up and it stripped after a bit of bashing Yes I have, for me it took the fun away a little. plus, the "local" track I do have (1 hour away) is only there on Sunday mornings which isn't suitable for me
@keithrx3c4 жыл бұрын
@@TheRCBiker My 20 year old MP7.5 plastic spur gear has never stripped and it's had a good beating over the years. As Allen says, if your engine hasn't moved and your gear mesh is set correctly, you shouldn't have any problems. I've just bought the newest Neo 3.0 with green body (T4) so I'll see how it goes. I'll make sure the mesh is right and thread lock the relevant screws. Not that there's any problems with steel spur gears.
@RemedyTalon2 жыл бұрын
@@keithrx3c The issue is the plastic can break down quickly from dirt and rocks. I have a quart and a half through my Neo and the plastic spur is showing some damage and it's not from incorrect mesh. I imagine the longevity of the plastic spur will really depend on where you are driving.

I'm not really sure how this is an upgrade, it should be a metal one to start with especially when buying what I thought is a quality brand like Kyosho, youd expect this on Hsp's but anything to save a buck, They should send you a free one once the crap plastic one has stripped, usually within a couple of bashings
