My issue is not upgrading to latest kernel. The customer wants me to install 3 different kernels that he provided as I have mentioned in my last post. Today from root I rpm packages using the following command. rpm -ivh xyz.rpm It says the package kernel that is already installed is newer than those I am trying to install. Right now not sure what to do. Any suggestion appreciated.

Dear Arkit, Please let me know can I upgrade kernel 2.6 on RHEL 6.4 to 4.1 on RHEL 7.x Secondly please tell is there any difference in i.e RHEL 6.4 vs RHEL 6.9 other than kernel, if yes than can we update to new version(RHEL 6.9) .

Why you want to upgrade the kernel.? are you looking for any new features or application compatibility on Kernel 4.x version. Yes there is an difference between 6.4 and 6.9. Not only kernel version there are so many updates. Refer release notes from redhat official site.

Sir, In Production environment what are the steps to be noted or follow for kernel upgrade?

Steps: 1. Backup your Entire machine (Bare-metal Copy) 2. Download required kernel version from kernel.org site 3. Backup /Boot partition to another partition for immediate access of old config files for reference 4. Run Update (Do not overwrite existing Kernel) Before you actually doing kernel update verify the applications which are installed in server. Whether they support new kernel version or nor. Keep in mind always make sure to have a rollback plan in case update fails.

Better to use https however website itself is not using SSL cert then ultimately we need to use http website. Check website spelling mistakes if any.
