You can use any USB Brand but you need 16gb at lass and download latest catalina os, install it to USB very easy

Make a Time Machine backup or use Carbon Copy Cloner before switching the SSD. All software licenses that use a hardware config protection method should still be activated as you haven't changed any of the other hardware.

Your computer will automatically delete the install file after a certain amount of time. You need to make it a point to save that somewhere if you want to be able to revert later. If you're trying to do this, I think you need to find someone with a copy of that install file.

@@theclock... Ah sorry I wasn't clear. I was speaking from a tech background and just spamming advice to people who were asking questions that had no responses. In this instance Spotlight will be extremely power-intensive once the new SSD is installed, but once it finishes indexing the new drive it should all go back to normal. If you do find battery life deteriorates after Spotlight is finished, check the article at the end of my message to find the offending program and remove it / reinstall.
