KillViper629 Fine. Two games out of the thousand PS3 titles. My point is, your hard drive was never always full because we didn't have to install a game that we had the disc for. (except for those two apparently)

Brian Mawasowski because PS3 didn't run most games at 1080p 60fps and couldn't do as much as the PS4 can. Since more processing power, means better graphics and better simulations such as explosions can have more detail.. which in turns adds more space.
@gureguru46948 жыл бұрын
yeah it makes no sense. with games like FFX that clearly doesn't require the HDD bandwidth to run properly. but on the flip side the installations do save the Blu-Ray Drive from wear and tear and less noise due to the console reading the disc all the time.

Very helpful. Though it should be mentioned you have to make sure the external Hard-Drive is set to FAT or exFAT format, otherwise the device WON'T be accepted by the PS4. I hear that the system itself will change the format on its own, but in my case it didn't appear to (or at least not in any way I could immediately tell). With that said, this video was great. Got my system upgraded, with PT fully intact. I am curious about what to do with the PS4's original HDD, probably not of much use to me since I don't have a laptop.

As a January 2023 update. I want to note that even though there’s now a slew of newer versions of this video by other creators, I want to say this video tutorial is still relevant. I was able to bump my hdd to an SSD while still retaining the PT demo. Some info missing from the video is that both the Hard drive it’s backing up to as well as the thumb drive must be formatted to FAT32 or exFAT before it can interact with the PS4. The version I did this on is 10.0.1 Edit: Just note that I did all this on a launch day PS4

You don't need 2 drives to store/backup and to install the installation software.. I used my 1TB to backup my data after deleting all my apps on my PS4, (except PT), then I downloaded the installation/update software on the same External HD. It will have the same folder (PS4) just make another folder (UPDATE) and the backup file is (EXPORT) then inside it is the (BACKUPS).. so when I plugged in my External to Initilize/Install, I didn't even have to unplug the External and soon as installation was completed, went straight to Restore..

Whatever you use, the storage device containing the update MUST be formatted beforehand. If the external hard drive contains your backup file, DO NOT use it to install the update, as formatting will completely erase your backup! Thus, using a separate flash drive is the best way to install the update.

So before I install the new SSD, if I have an Enclosure for the New and Unused SSD, that allows me to plug it into my computer as an external SSD, can I just download, from the ps4 website, that ps4 update file to the latest version (like what you did for the 1gb flash drive) straight to the SSD (SAMSUNG EVO 860 1tb SSD), to skip using the 1gb flash drive step? Also if I have an enclosure for the SSD why cant I just back up the ps4 with all the systems games and data to the external SSD (using the enclosure) and then take it out of the enclosure to now install and replace the standard ps4 systems HDD, that I just transferred all its data from to the SSD, and just install that SSD into the PS4 along with that update file that I first downloaded from my computer?? I feel like we could skip 2 (maybe 3) time consuming steps if this is possible. The problem I had when using the SSD with the enclosure connected to the PS4 was when I on the PS4 I went to “System” , “Back up PS4”, and it said this device (Samsung EVO 860 SSD) is not supported. HOWEVER, I did not format the SSD yet, it was straight out of the box, because I thought I could format it once plugged into the PS4. I still haven’t formatted the SSD yet to try this because I don’t want to cause any problems since I cant find any information backing this method up. But it would be cool if someone made a video if it can be done since theres a ton of videos doing it this way.

My ps4 has the mat black on both sides, does it still work the same or do I have to take the entire casing off? Also is there a limit to how big I can make my storage? Like could I find a 10 terabit storage and it still work? Please help

What about user settings and 2nd user. Will that be restored too? Or 2 restore file. Will that erase number 1 user if I restore 2nd user file?

If you sign in do you still have the games or do you have to back up the games themselves
