How to upholster buttons - DIY fabric covered buttons

Making fabric covered buttons for upholstery or sewing projects is easy!
and you don't need expensive tools to do it. There are pre-made buttons that you can upholster yourself - all you need is a nice fabric and a hammer.

The buttons I used - these are great as come with the tool:

Make sure to pick the set with the wire hook, not the flat back!

My velvet fabric is thick and the back wont snap. How can i do them?

After this exact experience im led to believe this is only for thin fabrics

Make the fabric circle smaller and run a gathering stitch of thread around the outside. Place the button in the centre and pull the thread. That holds everything in place with the least amount of fabric under the button back.
