Excellent demo of how to use a contactor with a lower amperage relay. The Arduino part was a bonus.

Hey DuctTape Mechanic - if I wanted to supply the smaller relay with power using a usbc on the main board, is that possible? Instead of using the stepdown transformer. Thank you.

You could try using a contactor with a 120 volt coil. You can use the relay to switch a very small amount of 120VAC, that powers the contactor with a much bigger load. Does away with the need for the 24VAC transformer. Amazon has contactors with all sorts of coil voltages - I've even used a contactor with a 240v coil to control a 25000 btu Window air conditioner using one of those cheap Sonoff smart switches. Still an excellent video, btw.

That is useful information. Doing away with the transformer is great. Thanks for watching!

what about flyback diode ? won't relay coil produce back emf ?
@DuctTapeMechanic3 жыл бұрын
It's an AC relay so probably not a good idea to use flyback diode.

Cool! next time you should try to show us the wiring diagram, so we can try it! Thanks man

Thanks for the feedback! I will try to add a wiring diagram next time.
