me too, i just put on the foot and sewed it did nothing it just sewed a straight stitch so I said to myself, this foot doesn't work, then I changed the tension and stitch length like you said and it worked!

Very informative video! How do I know how much of fabric to match up to the ungathered piece? When I do a basting stitch I usually adjust the gathers to the piece I attach it to. Here since the foot is doing the gathering, I'm not sure how to measure my material for the gathering, especially if I'm working with just enough material.

You will need to test out scraps to see how much it gathering up. Like cut 12 inches and see what it gathers to and adjust it

How would you control the amount of ruffle if you were using this to set in a sleeve as you suggested in the video. I just played with my gatthering foot for the first time tonight and now I am searching for tips cause it didn't come with much direction. Keeping those two pieces of fabric together is not easy. Mine turned out awful. Can you use this foot with elastic in the bobbin? I would love to see a video with a lot more ideas for uses.of this foot.

Hi, You an adjust how it gathers with the thread tension, the stitch length and the foot pressure. I have not used elastic in the bobbin with this foot but I do not see why you cant.

They are both awesome & give different looks. It really depends on the project but the gathering foot is best with lighter fabrics.

Well different machines have different ways the feet attach . Does this foot attach to your machine? If it goes then it’s probably the right one. Also , a lot of machines are either low shank or high shank & you need to buy the foot according to that. It should say in the manual to your machine. What machine do u have ?

Can you PLEASE do a tutorial on how to gather knits with a gathering foot? The feed dogs keep pulling the fabric underneath! I've used stabilizer, but I want the gathers very soft. Help!!! :D

The gather foot works great….for the first few inches and if it’s in the center of the fabric only. I don’t understand why it won’t do that for the whole length and closer to the edge. It’s like mine stops and I have to un snag it even though it looks fine underneath. The ruffler doesn’t work either on my machine. it just unscrews the needle within seconds of stitching no matter how tight I clamp it in. I don’t know what to do now.

There are different ruffler feet on the market. You might not have the correct one for your machine.

I have lost track of how many videos I've watched now, and my machine still locks up after one stitch with a gather foot.

@@SewAnastasia yep. Then locks up halfway into the first stitch with the foot on. I've tried all sorts of tension and stitch length settings, same thing.

@@SaintJoi huh 🤔 odd. What machine are you using? Are you using the correct gathering foot for your machine? Also do you have the correct needle in? I would change your needle, thread & make a new bobbin just to rule those out.
