Every time you wash your hands, dry them with a cloth hand towel. Use the dampened part of the towel to gently rub your cuticles back. Pushes them back and exfoliates at the same time.

It's amazing how much cuticle is actually there to be removed; before the application of the Blue Cross, your nail beds didn't look like they had much cuticle there at all. Thanks for this video Anna, it answered some questions I had about the use of the glass cuticle tool. Keep up the great work! (Hello MSL).

Hi Lybbyann! Right? So satisfying! The cuticle is on the nail plate though. Not the nail bed :). Not being picky but I’m trying to make sure everyone knows (and remembers) the proper terms :) 🥰🤓

I have to say, this is the first and most healthy video I've seen about cuticle care! Thank you for all the reminders. I had a tendency to cut my dried proximal nailfold, because I thought it was dead. And in return it got really calloused! Now I've been taking care of my nails and cuticles very gently since like 10 days ago, and they got so much better already!!! Your video is the best I've seen so far, thank you again ♥️

I'm so excited to finally see a decent tutorial / safety video regarding glass cuticle files! They're wonderful tools, but can be so dangerous and unhealthy in the hands of someone who doesn't understand basic nail anatomy (I've gotten into heated discussions with other nail professionals who don't seem to understand what the cuticle actually is!). I'm also excited that you are offering the same info and advice that I offer to my clients. Other viewers: if you're a pro who sells glass cuticle files to your clients, PLEASE take the time to show them how to properly and safely use them at home! Healthy nails are the best nails to work on! ❤️

Your manicure videos are excellent. I have had horribly overgrown cuticles for years and would always cut them to try to make my hands look presentable. They looked ok for a day, then the hard and peeling nail fold skin would take over again in a vicious cycle. I started following your techniques. So far, after two weeks, the results have been nothing short of miraculous. Still room for improvement, but still amazing. Thank you!

I treated myself to a manicure, a while back, and I thought that the technician must be right and that was the way to do it. She used a V shaped cutting tool to cut away cuticle - and skin! So, I tried to copy her technique when my skin grew back harder and thicker (surprise surprise!) My fingers looked neat, but they were so sore; they were when she did it, too, but she had more soothing oils and creams. So, I stopped using that tool. I'm really glad to know how to look after my nails and skin properly now. Thank you!

I love your videos- so much good information that I needed to know. My nails and “nail fold” have improved so much since I started following your advice (since last week!). It is a new thing for me to NOT carve off what I thought was cuticle. I used to use the Revlon “cuticle trimmer” all the time and would often end up with bleeding, then hardening of the fold. So a constant cycle of trauma, hangnails, healing, then trimming again. YUCK! I also would end up with horizontal dents in the nail plate that would take a long time to grow out. My nails are naturally thin and soft to it is easy to damage them. I also buffed them because they have ridges, a few months ago and that was a real mistake. I’ve got a little way to go before that damage is all the way grown out. I found that the Essie Smoothie ridge filler works really well to cover and fill in the damage, and made it possible for me to use polish. I tried the Essie Expressie after watching some of your swatch videos and I love how quickly it dries. With regular polish I inevitably mess it up before it completely hardens. Anyway, a million thanks to you for your great videos!

Also Blue Cross cuticle remover has been a life changer for me. I apply and get to work gently scraping the cuticle off my nail plate. I get more off than I ever expected! I lay a small towel down or an old t-shirt. I reapply the remover as I need to. Be sure to rinse it all well when you're done. One time it made my finger pads sore. But just don't leave it on a long time.

Have you done a video of a manicure with short, picked at nails? That would be really helpful to know where to start. Also, It would be interesting to understand the psychology of nail biting and picking. Thanks! I’m hoping your channel will help turnaround a life long problem!
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I used to bite my nails and I can be a picker if there is anything to pick. So my nails need to be always done so I don’t pick. Yes, I have done a video (it’s watch me work video) with a client with short nails and stretched skin around the nails. Because it’s a client and I’m very comfortable using e-file I used one. It leaves a nice smooth surface so people are less prone to pick. You just start pushing back the skin a bit and use the creams I suggests. It would be very difficult to film such a video because I would have to find someone who would come every 2 days or so so I can spend literally 3 minutes to push the skin back. A lot depends on daily care. I have no control over that. Maybe one of the viewers would like to share their progress?
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife 2 жыл бұрын
Ps. When it comes to psychological reasons why people might be biting their nails I really don’t think I’m qualified to discuss that. My role is to help people improve their nails with proper hand/nail care and cosmetic products. That’s my area of expertise:)

Thanks for a very detailed tutorial with the glass cuticle tool. I’ve had mine for about 6 months and they are a game changer. I was still having cuticle removal issues and decided to buy Blue Cross. Blue Cross is also a game changer. I have been using a product my daughter got me from Cosmoprof, “Starpro Cuticle remover”. This is very creamy & hydrating and not so irritating, but leaves a sticky residue, and it isn’t as effective as Blue Cross to remove dead skin. I have been alternating the two cuticle removers since the skin on the sides of my nails is so dry. ❣️❣️

Awesome video, Anna.Your nails look awesome - strong and healthy - with or without polish, but I do prefer the glossy shine! I have been pushing my PNFs back often for at least 2 months and I use urea based cream/ointment nightly. Things have gotten much better! However, I still find that the "keratinized section of the PNF is still pretty long and when pushing back and removing cuticle I have a standing ridge of PNF. I can gently sand it smooth with the manicure stick, but this amounts to the same sort of mild filing that occurs with e-filing. It just seems like mine don't want to get small. I have extreme ridges on several nails - seems like a mountain range of ridges!. I have slightly nicked the ridges making circles and find that when approaching Mount Ridgemore circles are not ideal. I need to use a more lengthwise stroke and use an even lighter touch than I use on more smooth nails.

I didn’t know you could get glass cuticle tools however I could totally see this being the most amazing way to get cuticles perfect. For the past few years I’ve used a wide long glass nail file (montblieu I think is the brand as well) as the file for my feet (instead of those sandpaper foot files) it’s literally the smoothest my feet ever get without a lot of friction (it just glides so comfortably) and it seems to take barely 1/4 of the time. Especially good for calloused skin on the toes which can be quite uncomfortable to get rid of with regular sandpaper files) . I got bored one day and decided to give it a try and never went back lol. Highly recommend if you’re bored one day and have a decent sized glass file lol.

This goes for toenails, too! It may seam obvious, but while the nail grows, the cuticle grows with it, causing the skin around it to "split." I will add that I'm encouraged to see more men take care if themselves & are frequenting salons for medis & pedis (Hammer & Nails).

Hi Anna! Would you share an LED or UV lamp do you recommend that is affordable? Thanks so much!!!
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife Жыл бұрын
Hi Sara, there is no universal lamp that will properly cure gels. They might harden them but they might not be properly cured. It's not a black and white situation. Not cured and cured. You have degrees of cure and the gels harden at 50% of cure. So technically they are cured. But the gels need to be cured up to about 90% to lower the risk of getting overexposed to uncured gel. This is why it's always good to use reputable gel company and cure it in the lamp they recommend. If they say that any lamp will cure the gel they don't understand the chemistry. Lamp manufacturers that say that their lamps will cure any gel also are just trying to sell you the lamp because I'm sure they haven't tested all the gels on the market to make sure that their lamp will cure them *properly. More info from a chemist schoonscientific.com/2014/complexity-uv-curing/

How do you get rid of the extra proximal fold because of it being stretched? Does it eventually sink back because you push it back regularly? Or do I need to cut it away? Thanks so much! ❤
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife Жыл бұрын
Yes, healthy skin is elastic. Skin definately shrinks like when we lose eight or after pregnancy. And that's a LOT of skin. Thats why they always say you should use various creams so the skin will remain elastic

I always learn something new from you, plus love to see you work. It has helped me so much. Someone just recently told me not to push back your cuticles when you have polish on, does that mess up your mani or hurt your nails? Thanks for showing not just manis but also nail care!!
@cyberpunk_lain
@cyberpunk_lain 2 жыл бұрын
no pushing back ur cuticle n the skin wont hurt ur nail. the cuticle is dead skin & the live skin wont get hurt as long as u dont cut it/wear it down too much. removing ur cuticle & pushing back the skin is imp bc it helps ur polish last longer. the cuticle has last texture to "grip" on and pushing back the skin helps to prevent formation of it. if u dont care abt the longevity of ur mani (if its just for a special event) then u dont have to!

Perfect timming, Anna. I haven't done my nails in about tens days too. Going to do them right after this. I've found that after pulling out all the heavy equipment and excavation tools, just using the pointed end of the stick works best all the way around the nail and lets me dig under the PNF and get it really clean. I am sooo glad to see you have those little broken skin tabs at the corner of where the PNF starts to transition into the LNF. Those little things drive me and my OCD crazy, and that's a short drive. 😂I'm glad I'm not in trouble with you, for nipping at those. Thanks for another excellent vid and thank you for sacrificing your nails to us in the name of education. 😘 Hugs (was that MSL in the backhround making all that noise? Did you give him 'the look', like, 'umm, professional work and recordings going on over here!') 🤓Hey MSL, hope you're doing amazing. Hugs 2u2 :)

I’m struggling with my ocd symptoms as well. How long did you struggle before you received your diagnosis? How do your obsessions interfere with your day to day? Is akin picking one of your compulsions? What happens when you don’t perform your skin picking ritual? My symptoms are terrible; depression and anxiety are my worst comorbisities from going undiagnosed for so long.

Anna could you please tell me how you know when you are removing the cuticle or actually some of the layers of the nail? Is there a way to tell the difference or is it just important to go gently?

Hi Ri, just go gently. less is better. When you use creams (urea based) and maintain your nails on a regular bases that step will be much easier
