I wish I saw how you use the Multimeter or what ever was that but over all it was the best explanation I found in KZbin. Very simple. Spent 5 wasted hours last night. I have could save them if I had watched this.

You didn't say anything about the wheeling (catch) diode that should be across the solenoid. This diode dissipates the magnetic flyback from the collapse of the field when the solenoid is released. A 1N4007 or bigger would be appropriate. The diode is wired directly across the coil (as close as possible) with the cathode to the +12 supply. Additionally, the current you measured is without any load, and should be measured under full mechanical load. Neither of these should be overlooked.

You are correct, I should have added that information.

Good video - Doesn't mention that firing this for a long time will burn something out. I think if you have it under software control you should use PWM to reduce the duty cycle to hold it in place. No expert, but I believe this is how modern pinball flippers work!

Thank you. Can you do the same video with a solid state relay and se555. This is used for fully auto and semi auto for an arcade light gun. You don’t need the gun. It would just be good to see how to wire the circuit. Thank you

A Chladni plate would be fine to attach it to the core of the solenoid. Then electronically control the oscillation via Arduino to get those cool fractal geometry patterns to appear on it. 🤔😉😆

I've just finished a project using very very simular pieces. saw you ran into the same issue as me... hold the solanoid open too long and you burn out the transistor and it locks open. hense why you had to flick the power off the 2nd time to get the release. This can be solve in a number of ways; heat sinking the transitor (this only really gives you more time), using a higher rated transistor or switching it for a relay.

can i use a solenoid valve push pull for quick push and pull....within 2-3 sec time? ( like using it to deliver one teaspoon senitizer liquid.

@@anandjoshi8554 yes you can. I have one set up to literally flash open closed with less than a second between.

@@ThePlacemat I have purchased 3N power 12v dc push pull solenoid, lets see if can do the work!!( may be higher 25n or so would be good !!) Which connector would fit to blue colour relay modules in place of jumper /dupont / berg housing connectors ??(2.54 mm pitch ) good firm connection

Interesting, can solenoid be powered only by arduino (no additional power), using capacitors? So it will have some delay till capacitor fully charged to uncharge 750mA and 11v of course, but still, is it possible?

I expected for the high current. I think 0.6A no too much. It's quite normal to small solenoids. I thought you would use Mosfets

Nice. A couple of things: 1) Should I plug it to an external battery? If so, what kind of battery? 2) What kind of transistor should I use? Would the TIP120 Power Darlington Transistors work? Thank you

P.S. I would like to use a Mini Push-Pull Solenoid - 5V and a Small Push-Pull Solenoid - 12VDC. Could you tell me what kind of battery is needed for each one of those? Thank you again.

If my solenoid will be at distance, is it preferred I make the wires on the 5v side long or should I make the 12v side long?

Not very powerful, about 5N or 600g of force at the top and then it drastically decreases when almost at the bottom is about 200-250g
