Our multifuel stoves can run on several different fuels, from gas to kerosene and when needs must in an emergency - even aviation fuel - our OmniFuel, MultiFuel and OmniLite Ti even run on diesel if required. However, the fuel that is most suitable depends on more than one factor, and depending on where in the world you find yourself, you may find certain types of fuel difficult to get hold of.

@eskimo4130 You can do auto priming with diesel and kerosene too but it's bit more tricky since they have a higher flash point than petrol. Diesel has a flash point of 52°C whereas petrol has a flash point of -48°C. For this reason some people prefer to bring a small bottle of alcohol or petrol to only use for priming when planning on running on diesel or kerosene.

+Primus Equipment Hi, what means "flash point" and "priming"?? :)
@m0r73n
@m0r73n 8 жыл бұрын
+Ultreïa Sherpa flash point: if you light a match and hold it against diesel it wont ignite before the temperature of the diesel rise to 52°C or higher similar If you were to cool petrol to a temperature below -48°C it wouldn't catch fire before the temperature rose above -48°C.

Thanks very much! Clear instructions that worked well when I tested my new omnilite stove for the first time. I have a few questions: 1. Do I need to prime the fuel bottle every time I use the stove? (And how many pumps does it need according to how empty the fuel bottle is getting?) 2. When travelling, do you disconnect the fuel attachment piece from the fuel bottle, and use the fuel bottle lid instead? Or is the fuel pump attachment piece leak-proof, and is it ok to travel with it connected inside the fuel bottle? (As this would save a lot of space and be cleaner.) 3. Is there a purpose to putting the round aluminium foil under the stove like in your video (assuming you are cooking on a fie proof surface anyway?) Does this reflect heat and increase fuel efficiency at all? Thank you!
@PrimusEquipment
@PrimusEquipment 4 жыл бұрын
1. you need to prime the burner and pump the bottle for every use, but you don't prime the fuel bottle. 2. You can leave the pump in he bottle if you'd like. 3. it is more that it reflects the heat away from the surface underneath, than it is raising the efficiency. The more air that is left in the bottle the more you need to pump. If you feel that it is not burning with full effeck just pump a bit more. and you can't pump to much, but you can pump too little. So if you are not sure, pump more.
@louisa3310

Great, Thanks @@PrimusEquipment! Got it: pumping = pressurising the fuel bottle, and priming = preheating the burner so the fuel so it vaporises and burns. Flipping the bottle to "off" and letting the fuel run dry and air = depressuring the fuel bottle and emptying the fuel line to prevent leakage. So, now I have another question after using the stove for two more days: Your video at 0.43 says the Omnifuel uses nozzle 0.37 for white-gas fuel. I have an omnilite ti (321985). Confusingly, on the omnilite ti box it says: 0.36mm for LP-gas (cartridge gas) and for white gas. It says to use 0.32mm jet for Gasoline / petrol. HOWEVER, the paper instruction booklet (which also came with my omnilite ti stove) says something a bit different. It says to use jet 0.36mm jet for cartridge gas, and to use 0.32mm jet for white gas and for gasoline/petrol. So which one is correct? Should I use the 0.32mm or the 0.36mm jet for white gas? The stove came with the 0.36 jet installed. The 0.36mm jet worked ok with white gas yesterday. Today I tried 0.32mm jet with white gas, and that worked ok too. So which one is best to use, or does it not matter?

Great Video! I have an omnilite TI. Question: I understand that flipping the bottle to OFF position pushes the remaining liquid through the stove. But, is it necessary to do this every time? If I know I'm going to restart the stove later that evening, can't I just close both the valves?
@PrimusEquipment
@PrimusEquipment 8 жыл бұрын
+FlatlanderIA Hi! Since there is pressure in the system it's good to empty it before packing it down. If you keep the pressure in the system and by accident open the valve when the stove is in the backpack you will mess up the bag. But if you don't pack down the stove and intend to use it later on there is no need to empty the system.

Also my Varifuel is kinda old.I noticed the pressure lessens in the middle of cooking so i just pump it up a few more times while its ON.Is that okay?Thanks!

Are you able to use bio ethanol fuel in the Polaris?
@keesverhagen9227
@keesverhagen9227 Жыл бұрын
This is possible. But be aware that it is a bit more agressive for the seals and rings. It is wise to always have a few spare rings and especcially the pre-heat pad. You can never know if something major will happen. So atleast when needed you can change them out. Especcially when going on a trip. But also to have at home. In case of a calamity you can not get spares anymore. A few days i got a new Omnifuel TI. I had the normal Omnifuel 2. And also the older Omnifuel. I leave the Omnifuel 2 at home. And in case of a calamity atleast i have two burners at home. And i also have a lot of Aspen gasoline. 2 stroke aswel as fourstroke. Aspen is fuel that never goes bad. And way cheaper then "special" fuel like MSR, Primus and Coleman. I think that another brand fuel for the lawnmower is just as good as Aspen. I also always have 2 25 liter cans of Aspen petrol. For my lamps, etc. But you can also burn it in the stove. Although it gives a bit more soot then four stroke gasoline. And please don't laugh. I make my own gas. With 3 x 1000 liter black IBC containers. Connected to each other. And use 4 extremely large inner tubes from wheels from a tractor to collect the gas. I filter the gas. Made an adapter for the Prime steel hose. This natural bio-gas burn perfectly with both Primus burners. If you would have just one IBC container at home. And two Primus burners. Then still you would have more then enough gas for everyday cooking. Ofcourse i do not use the Primus burners every day. For that i have adapted a normal gasstove with slightly larger injectors. 7 months per year a cook everyday with that "free" gas. And this saves me a lot of money. In your case when only using bio-fuell every time after cooking i would take the pump out of the bottle. This is something what i always do. Cause you will extent the life of the seals and rings by doing that. I also use that Bio-gas to power a four-stroke generator. That is why i use several IBC containers. With that i almost use no electricity from the "net". And i really would advise you to buy spares for your stove as soon as you can. Because i became aware online when i bought the TI version that almost everything was out of stock. Even the larger outdoors companies where out of stock. Even the Dutch Primus reseller was almost completely out of stock. They had no Omnifuell 2 , no Omnifuell TI and even almost no spare-kits. From that i conclude that for longer then a year Primus itself hardly can produce because they have no parts enough. Probably they are coming from China. And China is becoming a problem. This is also our fault ofcourse. For your piece of mind i would search for a shop that still has stock. Greetings from the Netherlands,🙏

@Kees Verhagen thanks for the great reply! I did do a little more research, and found out that the reason why you can't use bio-ethanol in that stove is because bio-ethanol destroys/dissolves aluminum.

But why does no Primus communication ever mention alcohol? I understand that I can use multiple fuels, but if for some reason I can't use alcohol with it, it would be nice to know that and perhaps even why.
@fnicl
@fnicl 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I don't work for Primus, but I can say that no, you shouldn't use alcohol for your multifuel stove. In part because the alcohol dries out the gaskets, which in turn will make it so that they aren't tight anymore. Another reason is that the energy efficiency of alcohol compared to the other fuels is so low, that you'd have to bring about 4x the amount of fuel.
@jeschinstad
@jeschinstad 2 жыл бұрын
@@fnicl: No, it's not that bad. Ethanol has about 30% less energy than gasoline. It is true that I would have to carry a bit more fuel, compared to natural gas or gasoline. But I usually prefer to use my Trangia alcohol burner because it's so silent and reliable. But there are some obvious advantages to using multifuel burner. One big advantage of alcohol, is it's safe to burn indoors, like in your tent. I wouldn't want to do that with gasoline. But you think it would work, except that it might damage my gaskets over time? The solution to that problem would simply be to not store alcohol in the system when I'm not using it. Heh, if the multifuel burner was free, I would simply test it myself, but it happens to cost money :)

@tor2919 2 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t burn alcohol. Perhaps try kerosene if you want to use a safer fuel than petrol. It isn’t explosive in the same way. There are no multifuel stoves that can compete with alcohol stoves like Trangia when it comes to silence. However, an alcohol just lacks the necessary power for efficient work during winter time. That’s when you really need one of these stoves.
@martenthornberg275
@martenthornberg275 Жыл бұрын
Alcohol has a pretty high flashpoint, (14 C for ethanol according to Wikipedia), so a typical, trangia-style alcohol burner won't work when it's cold. In theory you should be able to burn alcohol with a pressurised stove like this but I would worry that it will damage the gaskets/hose/bottle or some of the plastic parts, but that is just me guessing. Kerosene seems like the best fuel to me since it has high energy density and it should be less of a fire- and explosion hazard. That's because it has a high flash point so it won't burn without a wick and it won't give off explosive vapours like alcohol and gasoline. It would be nice to know why they recommend white gas over kerosene. Maybe white gas burns cleaner? Or is it just because it's a little harder to prime (for the same reason it is safer)?
@jeschinstad
@jeschinstad Жыл бұрын
@@martenthornberg275: Actually, the benefit of trangia is that it works at any temperature, because it's so easy to pre-heat. I usually use a tealight for that. I bring the alcohol to the boil before I remove the lid and light it. It just takes a bit longer when it's cold. By the way, if you would find it difficult to get a trangia up to 14C, you would be dead or very close to it. The benefit of ethanol is that it's easily available but also that you can safely use it inside, since it only gives off co2 and water. The downside is that the small cup only lasts for a short period of time.

Can't speak from extensive experience, as I have used mine with aclohol based fuels only abot 4-5 times outdoors and for a few days indoors, while our kitchen got built - all over the case of about 10 years. Never used any other fuels. I am not aware of any problems from this limited use. We always let it run empty as describes, maybe that is the key? I was very impressed with the efficiency and the low smell and soot. I have no means of comparing to other fuels. We just had a power outage of four hours and I checked my survival gear.. I may test-use the stove again in the near futer and can report if it has any problems - if anyone is currently interested

Where is cleaning needle? You need to stop the stove, to clean the jet, what a stupid idea! You can put inside needle, so peple can shake it to clean. But the best will be make some cleaning mechanism, as old stoves have. Many people dont buy your stoves, because they work only on very clean fuel. Add some excentric cleaning mechanism, and it will be the best stove on a market.
