Thanks Alex, that’s a great machine. I’ve got a green one and just a few dies ‘at the moment’ 🤣

The green one works in the same way and I think it’s more than enough for most people (I needed mine for heavy duty riveting 😉) Also, don’t buy lots of dies at once (like me 🤣) because you’re probably going to use just a few sets 😉

Very handy tool to have. Nice😊

Thank you 😊 I love it (I’m not super strong so heavy fabric or leather was a struggle with my pliers) though just for dressmaking I’d recommend the much cheaper (usually about £ 60 -up to £100) standard press 😊

@@GingerheadCo good to know. I have a coat waiting for me to put snaps on. It is amazing how many ways you can put snaps on the wrong way. 😏ask me how I know🤣

@@PracticalStitches there are no fails just lessons learnt 😘 that applies to sewing and life in general 😁 first time I put snaps into a hoodie I added a whole column (12 or so) of the stud and post pairs wrong side up 😭 so the post was on the wrong side - they looked beautiful and closed perfectly so it broke my heart when I had to patiently remove each of them with pliers (and swear words) 🤣

Brilliant Alex! I’ve got the green hand press which seems to work in a similar way - although the blue one looks more proficient!
@GingerheadCo3 жыл бұрын
The green one is the standard one, they are very good and definitely enough for any clothes or bags - unless you need it for multiple layers of leather or webbing it will be perfect for a long time 😊 they work the same and the dies are interchangeable (if it’s from the same company 😉) In this one you can also buy stuff for button covering (it’s a different t bar) I’m not sure if you can do that in the standard one (but not many people need it for everything 😆)

Thank Alex. I have a little hand held model, and I keep a sample of the snaps in the bag it’s stored in. I use it so infrequently that I have written myself instructions! 😂

The principles are the same in them - I mainly use mine for bigger rivets (and snaps and grommets) and mine needed to be able to go through layers of webbing (for harnesses) so the impact force was the deciding factor 😉

Thank you Alex! I have had mine for awhile but have been reluctant to dive in except for a few practice snaps. Agreed that interfacing is a must! Will keep you video for reference. Excellent review!

Thank you 😊 I keep offcutts of soft shell and washable paper (used in bag making) and use them on the stress points of lined garments (also, I often line hoods just to be able to hide all the interfacing and patches of leather/soft shell that I use under grommets) Anything densely woven but relatively soft (polyester is actually better for this) works very well. I used to make lots of dogs harnesses (I still make them, just not often) and got the press for that (I made harnesses for “kjoring” skijoring is a sport where your dogs pull you on skis but in the UK snow is rare 🤣 so it was basically for pulling 🤣 ) so they had to have multiple stitches and rivets - I always enjoyed the riveting bit (sewing though multiple layers of webbing- not so much 🙄)

Thank you so much for this video. Can you pls give me a list of all the dies you have? At least I get an idea what I should get. Thanks

I should love one and just play with it all day 😂🤣 but my hand held Prym one is ample for my use 😀

It’s a brilliant press but for just dressmaking and occasional bags I don’t think it’s necessary to get the sturdiest one - the standard one would be enough (of course I love my toys so ... I needed the big one 🤣🤣🤣)

Thanks so much for this demonstration. Do you have to buy fasteners that are the same brand as the press, or will it work with fasteners of any brand?
@GingerheadCo3 жыл бұрын
No, you can buy generic ones (even the ones from Alibaba work - the small snaps I use in the video are from China) but it’s best to have a trusted seller, some cheap fasteners are not the best quality. You need to buy the dies that are specific for your press though (a set is usually about £15)
