These handy little tools cam assist in providing an accurate composition proportionally.
They can ee found at art stores and on Amazon. There are many types and price ranges. Here's a link to the one in the video.

Thanks for giving us a rundown on this tool. I didn't know it even existed. Looks like it could be useful especially for us newbies

If I remember right from high school proportional dividers are also use in drafting. Sometimes as artist we forget that we are aloud to use helpful tools. Great video.

Great reminder, got mine out, it's the derwent brand. Can't wait to see the lighthouse painted.

Ohhhh.. I have one just like yours! I'm going to use it to get the facial portions of my granddaughters so the don't look to goofy. Plus it helps allot when transferring too a paper. Such as copying from a picture to your either canvas or paper. When I first started watching you tube I watched Lisa Clough/Lachri fine art. She did pod casts with Jason Morgan & he has a great video on the accurese on copying from a picture to his pallet. It's very good I learned a lot from his video. He does a great teaching video on white pencils & which is best in certain areas also. He's got a great accent also! 😀

Well, there's really some fancy equipment out there nowadays and a tool for every job, by the looks of it! I like watching the videos that Alan Owen puts out - and when he does pen and wash drawings, instead of a pen he uses an old clothes peg that he sharpened himself and he just dips it in a bottle of ink and away he goes. I wonder what he'd make of all this modern new-fangled stuff? LOL Can't wait to see the lighthouse in all its glory - I tried one a few weeks ago and wasn't too happy with the end result, so I'll be more than happy to pick up a few tips from your own version. Thanks for another good video; as you know, we all appreciate the time (and no little trouble) that you put into these for our benefit. All the best, Brian.

Thank you April. And I am glad the tip was helpful for you. A lot of people say their sword brushes just sit and they don’t know what to use them for and this is a good example. Those long needles take forever and a day to put in so this speeds things along.

YES! Thank you! 👏 I have no depth perception and a severe case of strabismus so I can't see anything the same way. It depends on which eye takes over. I think this would help me with everything. Off to watch the video about the view finder. How's your Note 8 doing, did you find a good case? Mine is still in the box and that's where it will stay until I can find a protective case for it. 🐁

I have the derwent dividers and they are horribly large and blunt. The ones you have are not easy to get in the uk ( you have to have them shipped from the us.) They look far more accurate. I can't hold my arm out to use that handy pencil technique. I'm finally getting my oxygen supply tomorrow, I can't wait to see if it helps ease my clusterheadaches a little!

Sharon Cullen Art Forced deep hyperventilation at 15litres per minute 100% O2 for 30 min at onset of each attack ( currently 7 or 8 per day) for the duration of the bout (2-3weeks) then I get about 6-7 days of a gap before the next bout starts and then I'll start the cycle again. I'm praying hard that it will reduce the intensity a little, I'd be grateful for even that. They don't want to try me with any of the preventative treatments because I have so many other health problems and medications/allergies/ toxicities. So the plan is to work with abortive treatments ( minus tryptans and nsaids due to breathing/heart and allergy) so that pretty much leaves O2. If those are not successful we will need to consider the more invasive options. So fingers crossed for O2! Wish me luck. Btw it's also my birthday tomorrow, a reduction in the pain would be the best gift ever!

For some reason even Amazon uk only show international retailers for the Acurasee. It would be nearly 3 times the price once shopping and customs applied, so not worth it. I'm thinking of tasking my amazing husband with the task of making me one! He has the skills and the ability, just whether he can get round to it or not! Lol

How do you know when to use which ratio measurment?
@SharonCullenArt
@SharonCullenArt 3 жыл бұрын
It really just depends on the size you are going for. Think about the size of your paper, and then if it is too large or small you can change the ratio. I explained that in the video. It is up to you. You will decide on your composition. Let’s say you are doing a portrait. Getting the size of the head would be your first thing to tackle. How much of the paper do you want to fill? Set your divider to that proportion. Then leave that pin set for every other measurement on the face. You can measure the eyes and keep them perfectly even. Then measure the distance between the eyes so you know where to set the eyes on the paper. Then measure the bridge of the nose, width of nose etc. And the lips. I hope this helps. So your head measurement may be large but without changing the pin you can then keep each detail in perfect sync with who you are looking at.

Good video .. thanks. But maybe don't chew your gum on the video? It wasn't that attractive.
@SharonCullenArt
@SharonCullenArt 5 жыл бұрын
BushcraftOnFire thank you but I have addressed multiple times why I chew gum sometimes in a video. I will tell you again. I have multiple health problems, and take a ton of medication. It creates severe dry mouth. I have to chew gum. In fact it was even prescribed by my dentist, to prevent tooth decay. I have to chew gum at night in my sleep. If you think I am unattractive there is not a whole lot I can do for you there. I think you could have voiced your complaint differently. Saying it is distracting to you or whatever. Advice on how I do my videos I do try to ignore. Everyone has an opinion! Sit closer, Sit further away. Position your camera this way so I can see better, Don’t play this music, play that music, Don’t chew gum, Don’’t touch your brushes because you will ruin them. Your hands look old for your age. Are those age spots or freckles!?? Shit everyone has an opinion, But calling me unattractive if I chew gum is something I can’t and won’t change for someone else. I think I can count on one hand how many times you will ever see me chew gum on camera. There are hundreds of videos.I know it is distracting to some, But unattractive? Sorry. Dude, or dudette whatever you are. That is quite nasty to say. I am not performing a modeling show here! I call people who leave comments like this trolls. Have a great day. And as I say at the end of every video (which I shouldn’t have to say but this world has changed for the worse) BE KIND TO PEOPLE!

@@SharonCullenArt so sorry my comment offended you. I hate nasty comments on my videos. ...and I would never do that to another. I didn't say you weren't attractive. Ands since this was the only video of yours I have watched I didn't know about the health issue. Perhaps I should have said distracting. ...but either way I appreciate your kind explanation. Sorry again. ..and I did enjoy the info in the video. Thank you for your patience with an old gentleman
