I've achieved extraction success with a power drill on lowest speed setting (use shortest possible squeezes on the trigger whilst pressing as hard as possible into the screw), I went up a size on the extractor front. This was a horizontal screw so achieving pressure into the screw was more difficult. Great video, thanks.

Why do you need to match it to the drill bit? You measure the drill bit and then jump to the extractor. Thanks

@@bobwallett That's not accurate unfortunately, I mean the keywords "at all times" anyways, there is a such thing as reverse threads, and if people think it's lefty loosey "all the time" they'll be unpleasantly surprised!!

Seems every extractor available at Big box home stores gets overwhelmingly horrible reviews reporting that they break and don't work. I wonder if they are turning wrong way or using power drill??

They’re most likely using a power tool. The key is to go really slow.

when drilling into the screw head initially; would the correct direction be counterclockwise? and if so would that be a reverse drill bit? i just have an ordinary old dewalt drill bit

Good video.. I like to live life dangerously so I selected the drill bit size by eye and drilled into the screw head. The extractor was too small so I placed the next size up in my cordless drill, set to reverse and the screw was fully extracted.. this was not a mission critical situation. Just an old wooden batten attached to the wall at the top of a cellar head 😂

Great video. A lot of good minor details in your commentary. One thing that might help for those who have never done it before… after you get your set of extractors home and opened up, take several minutes to “practice” before making an actual first attempt on one that is important to get extracted. This helped me a lot with trying different setups. 👍

you can try using valve compound in the fastener and on the screwdriver to get a better bite. if it has a decent size head you can also try grabbing it with a set of pliers that have aggressive tooth pattern.

I would try to solder something on top of the screw. Like another screw, or anything to get a hold on. And then use a screwdriver or pliers to unscrew it.

I am trying to DIY and outer tub replacement on an old washing machine. Well...I haven't gotten very far. The brackets outside the control panel have two philips screws. One came off fairly easily. The OTHER one?...FuhGETaboutit! A WD-40 type spray did NOT Good. Even if I can get that screw off, I still have to figure out the agitator head cover, and I'm Sure their will be other snafus down the road. If that DANG tub hadn't rusted, the machine would probably be good to go for another twenty years (it's almost forty years old already.)
