Firewood gathering of standing dead up here in the Rockies ( at 9,300 ft elev) in heavy forest on steep inclines, we HAVE to use Snatch Block. Matter of fact I have 3. Often it’s a good 180 feet off the road to the log, with a whole lot of maneuvering through the alpine forest. All done with an F150, a 6 ft chain, snatch block(s), eye hooks, and 220 feet of 11,500 tensile strength bull rope. Been at it with minimal gear for a decade now. We were using a Warn Winch. But that takes all day long. Winches are SLOW. And only used as a type of Yarder in very difficult situations. We start in Mod-August when the weather is at 70 degrees or less. And go all the way to the first three or four snows in December. Once 4,5 feet hit the Rockies it’s difficult to work in. But we’ve done it. Our snatch blocks are used to take a specific path back down or up to the truck. Often using 3 at a time getting wood as far as 220 feet away. Sometimes we put on an extension of 50 feet atop that. Without these blocks I’d have to point to point using the trees themselves and that wears out a rope quickly. Thanks for the only Vid on blocks on YT

Why didn't you just drive the truck out to the logs and hook up three different times with no rigging at all. I wish our terrain in the mountains allowed for such easy logging!!!

Really like watching these videos - I get to see a side of life I wouldn't otherwise experience. Only complaint, the audio when your speaking is much quieter than the music -and I would say the music is too loud too. My only complaint though - keep on keeping on

Yeah, it's because of my headphones I use to edit. They're fancy so what sounds good on them doesn't necessarily sound good on other platforms.

Your rig was a simple 2:1 rig. The advantage to a snatch block is that you can open it and drop the line in and close it.

I do much of the same thing. Only I use rope. I personally like using rope because of the versatility of tying knots. I also feel its a little safer if the rope breaks as there is less energy stored in the rope.

Looks like you just had a 2:1 pulley ratio going on there. You were pulling 2 logs. You would have been quicker just making 2 trips with your truck hooked up to each log since you could drag the log the full distance and not be constantly setting up your cable and blocks for a bunch of short pulls.
