Here is how to use a torque wrench, step-by-step the correct way. I demonstrate how to use a 1/2" drive torque wrench, but it's the same for a 3/8" drive as well. The wrench in this video is 10-150 ft-lbs.

Bravo! Yours is the first I’ve seen to thoroughly explain the second click. Most people say turn the handle slowly until you hear it click once, but I always heard two clicks.

I've never used a torque wrench when I've worked on my cars. I've pulled 2 heads of 2 different motors one for a head gasket and the other for a blown piston. Both were inline 6 engines and just tightened the bolts by feel. It never occured to me to use a torque wrench. But I think I'll buy one and see how I go.

Growing up as a kid my grandpa taught me mechanics he always used to say joking around of course when you're tightening down your bolts and when your elbow clicks that's about 50 lb then if you use your non-dominant arm and that elbow clicks that's about 30 lb I'm pretty sure he was joking around or not

One thing I didn't know and doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere is that there are two or more ranges of torque wrenches. 0-25 and then 25 upwards. The former si really only for bikes and small bolts. I made the mistake of ordering a 25NM wrench and it was useless for cars. As a complete newbie I was not aware of this.

Good point. There are multiple ranges yes. I'll mention that in a a future update video.

there are at least 10 'common' scales, and they all depend what you are working on, there is no one size fits all, and if there is -it's so not precise to really beat the purpose... but for general around car purpose would be 25-110nm scale or as close to that as possible; over 120 you need a break bar, bellow 25 its for plastic and really soft metal... my scale is: screwdriver strength is up to 20, than you have fist over bolt 25-45, then fist next to bolt lever, then 2 fists lever, and finally -break bar lever for 120nm+ it's as precise as the cheapest tw, lol and more than enough for majority of at home motorcycle, car, lawn mower etc repairs

A 0-25 isn’t totally useless for your car… remember you wanna have the right torque on your spark plugs.. so you don’t ruin your threads or your pistons. Perfect for 0-25…

What I've read: - If you're putting a lug on a wheel, tighten it by hand. Then torque it to 33%, then 66% then 100% specification. If applying multiple lugs this way, do all at 33%, then 66% then 100%. - Torque lugs in a criss-cross pattern so that they distribute even pressure on the wheel and you don't bias the tightness on one side of the wheel. That's bad. - Make sure you re-tighten the lock nut on the handle after setting the torque value and before using the torque wrench - it can affect the internal spring accuracy. - If you loosen your lugs in order to re-torque them, you may need to re-torque again after 25-50 miles - don't loosen them to torque them, just torque them, unless you're concerned they are too tight already.

why is the lever by the head switch to the right, but it is actually tightening instead of loosening. Shouldn't it be loosening the lug/bolt instead? And when lever is switch to the left it should be tightening? I pulled out a craftsman ratchet and having the lever pointed to the right is loosening a bolt.

Not sure, but if you use any length of EXTENSION, it changes the actual torque value from what you set it at. Please do your research to find out HOW to adjust your torque settings if you use any length extension.
@RevMatchReviews
@RevMatchReviews 8 ай бұрын
It does not change the torque value. The rotational force is how torque is applied to the bolt. You might reduce the accuracy somewhat if you don't apply force perpendicular to the bolt, but at an angle. Yes, I definitely did my research and validated it too. Consult a physics book, or with a certified mechanic instead of some random dude posting on the internet.

Million dollar question, should you use shallow or deep sockets? I seen video where dude tested both and the deep sockets gave higher torque then what it was set at. But have you done same test and or just know the rule if your supposed to use the shallow sockets instead of deep?

If you keep moving the wrench after the click, you'll go past the desired torque value.

I don't get why many of KZbin professionals doesn't show how to operate a low setting torque wrench and the click they produce. Show me 7.5 ft lbs torque on a aluminum head cover. I guess the click will be so soft and the indication is the handle deflects from head of the torque wrench with little to no sound.

I can do a video with a lower torque spec wrench, but more people want to change their wheels than work on their engine so there's not much demand.

He literally goes over it within the first minute of the video lol it’s really not rocket science, basically twisting a knob until you reach your desired torque value. Just remember to go back to zero after you are done. Best to store at zero to ensure your wrench lasts longer.

Never good to use an adapter with a torque wrench. It will be off at least 5% on your 95lb. Also the wrench itself has + or - 2% percent. So by adding an adapter you are +or - 7%

.. and skipped right past explaining what a torque value.. is?? Like what .. that’s all I’m trying to find out and every KZbinr just says oh you have to turn this dial right here to this number, this is how you do it! *me thinking okay that’s helpful, now why do I need to do that* KZbinr - now let’s skip to the part where I put the wrench onto the nut 🤷🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️
@RevMatchReviews
@RevMatchReviews 10 ай бұрын
The torque value the application of force at radial distance. i.e the amount of force applied to your lug nut. It's measured in force x length. In the US we us pound-feet (lb-ft). In other countries it's often expressed in newton-meters (Nm).
@hashtagjustadad5110
@hashtagjustadad5110 10 ай бұрын
In the most simple of explanations it is a measurement telling you how tight a nut or a bolt is screwed on. For example, if you are putting lug nuts on a wheel and you want to make sure they don’t come flying off then you have to tighten them enough. But what is enough? That’s where the value on the torque wrench come into play. You might find out that you have to tighten the lug nuts to 70 ft/lb. So you set the dial on your torque wrench to the 70 ft/lb mark and you tighten the nut until you hear and feel the click. Now you know that you tightened the nut enough.
