Hey thanks for this great video. I have a question - how do you stop the turf cutter cutting and bring it to a standstill?
@Gardenninja Жыл бұрын
There’s a bit of a skill to it. But you basically pull back and it lifts up tearing a line through the turf or you can raise the level but the lift methods far faster! Then you tidy up the raw edge with a spade. 🥷🌿🤘

Thanks for the great video. I have a full garden lawn and want to create flower beds around the perimeter; would it be a good idea to use this machine to lift the turf around the edges and create beds like that? I'm also wondering how close to the fence / wall this machine will cut!
@Gardenninja Жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. It will cut upto 2inch from the edge. So it’s worth while hiring one to create flower beds. I used on in the Exploding Atom Garden. Check out the series here for more help. Happy gardening. kzbin.info/aero/PL7HK5RsLCR9dPFmfHPL4BoRCmi5wrkRTX 🥷🌿🤘

When you do a second pass next to one already cut, how does it maintain level if one side of wheels are lower than the other, can the wheels be raised?
@Gardenninja2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew. You can’t raise the wheels on this model. There’s a slight angle but it’s never caused an issue for me. You can always go back over any inconsistencies once all the turf has been removed. Happy turf cutting!! Lee 🥷🌿🙌

It’s ok. You may need to do several passes to get a level cut or do a few shallower passes so not to clog it up. 🥷🌿👍

Looks great. I have a badly damaged lawn mostly made up of weeds. I hope to clear the area and sow grass seed, or lay new turf. Do you think using a turf cutter would be suitable as a quick option to clear it, or should I use weedkiller, then rotavate the ground which takes longer?
@Gardenninja5 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, My advice would be to treat the lawn for weeds, whether that is with weed killer or manually depending on the amount. Then I'd scarify the lawn heavily. Even if the lawns in an awful condition scarification can bring even the most abused lawn back from the dead. Then overseed. You'll get a great result without having to remove all that turf and relay. It will also be significantly cheaper. I have a scarification video here and you can hire scarifiers from most machinery shops. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqDIipl-f9ugqbM Hope that helps and let me know how you get on! Lee

@@Gardenninja No, not weedkiller. Glyphosate has been linked to cancer. It's also terrible for wildlife such as bees and worms, which are essential to the ecosystem.
@Gardenninja5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan. Thanks for your comment. You raise some good points to consider. I mention weed killer in my response as for some people they either can’t or aren’t able to manually remove weeds by hand. It depends on the amount, severity, ability and time available to the gardener. Everyone has their preferred method, I’m a manual weeder. A manual method is better for wildlife and the eco system where possible. Alternatives could be the use of a weed burner or taking care of your lawn each year to reduce the ability for weeds to take over. Many thanks and happy gardening!

Hi garden ninja, just looking for a bit of advice. I'm looling to level my lawn, I was going to use a turf cutter to remove the turf, rotavate the soul underneath, level out everywhere, then re-use the original turf. Would you scarify/weed and feed the turf before using the turf cutter or wait until it is reapplied to the lawn? Thanks
@Gardenninja4 жыл бұрын
That’s a really good question. Scarification will add stress to the lawn. So I’d life level and refit first. Then give it 6 months to get reestablished and do a late Autumn scarify. When you lift it make sure you keep it moist whilst it’s waiting to go back in. Thats the biggest killer of rolled turf; it drying out. Hope that helps. Happy gardening. Lee

What about superficial roots from a tree?
@Gardenninja4 жыл бұрын
Hey Jay. I wouldn’t use a turf cutter on this it will both damage the roots and the machine. It won’t cut through them. I’d manually remove turf in these areas. Happy Gardening! Lee

I have to remove a heavy thatched lawn. Would u recommend using a machine like this? Does it work well with thatch?
@Gardenninja6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon, Ideally you would use a scarifier for thatch. I have a video on how to do that on my channel. You could use the turf cutter as a drastic measure but you may need to cut deeper. Just set the depth a bit deeper so it gets it all out. You could then compost your lifted thatch and it will break down over time. Hope that helps! Lee

Does this work on uneven ground?
@Gardenninja5 жыл бұрын
Not really Paula. It will still cut but it runs in a straight line so depending on how uneven your ground is it will either get stuck on bumps or only take off part of the turf. I’d do the bumpy bits by hand save damaging the machine or making a bigger mess of your lawn! Then use a turf cutter once the lumps are gone. Hope that helps!
