Thank you, so simple, but I really needed this tip. Never knew where to cut or to use the second hinge. I have broken far too many corks

You saved my Christmas! Couldn't find the opener that looks like a long-armed man and never knew how to use this kind right.

Thank you!! This kind was the only corkscrew I could find in the apartment, and I was stumped by it! Now I can make my beef stew tonight with red wine. This video saved my life!

I've also found it better to twist bottle at first to set corkscrew into cork. It gives a better and centered set for easy opening.

I've had the hardest time figuring this out, and I finally did it! However, I think this here video could have been a bit more clear: First off, and perhaps most importantly, don't overturn the corkscrew on your own...manually, that is...or so much so that the screw is almost entirely down INTO the cork. It's better to turn the screw too little, than too much...or so that it's too far along INTO the cork, because once you've done that...er...you're screwed. ;-) So turn the screw a bit, and then try doing what is shown starting at 0:34. If the first or upper portion of the hinge cannot yet sit on the TOP of the lip of the bottle (the video says 'the lip' of the bottle, but it's really the TOP of the lip....)...you want to turn the screw into the cork and stop AS SOON AS you see that the first or upper portion of the hinge can rest on the TOP of the lip of the bottle. So long as you keep these other two things in mind (which I don't think were explained well enough in the video), you should be able to follow along with the rest of the video just fine. Some other tips.... as you proceed with the step at 0:34, really pay attention to the first/upper hinge and where it is resting on top of the bottle/lip. If you have that hinge pressed down too firmly onto anything more than the very edge of the cork...and especially the more cork it may be resting or pressing upon...it stands to reason that the harder of a time you will have trying to Pull that cork Upwards, and while with your other hand you are possibly holding/pressing that first/top hinge ONTO the cork. Keep in mind that AS you begin to pull the cork upward with one hand, that the other hand (holding the first/top hinge in place, on top of the bottle lip) should be allowing the hinge to EASE BACK and AWAY from the edge of the lip, thereby ALLOWING the cork to rise up out of the bottle. Then continue as shown in the video, employing the second/lower hinge, to finish the job. I've also come to realize that even IF you don't follow these steps perfectly right, that it also helps if you have some 'muscle'. For those of us who may not be all that strong and/or who may be short in stature, additional tips: You get more leverage if you are able to look DOWN ONTO the top of the bottle, at the time you try to pull the cork out of the bottle. In other words, it's harder to remove the cork if or while you have the bottle sitting up on a countertop or table top, but yet you aren't tall enough to look DOWN ONTO the top of the bottle at the same time. The fact that most counter or table tops can also have a slick or somewhat slippery surface area, also doesn't provide you with any 'traction'. I had much better luck starting off with the bottle on the countertop...while I was first turning the corkscrew into the cork...then I removed the bottle from the counter and held it firmly between my thighs, and while bent at the waist, continued with the steps to PULL the cork out. That was much easier for me, vs my trying to do all the steps (especially the final steps) up on the countertop.

Wish I´d read this comment before attempting opening the bottle. I now have this damn bottle opener screwed way too deep into the cork

Cut under second lip of wine bottle so as not to affect the flavor of wine on subsequent pours and not contaminate the first with possible metal shavings remaining from the foil - otherwise solid intro and a lovely corkscrew! I love the Coutale Sommelier line of tools as well - beautiful finishes available and superior performance (without spending 150+ on a corkscrew!)

I cannot be the only one who just tried to yank it straight up and hope for the best right? I had no idea you put it against the side of the bottle to get leverage.

Most knives sold with consumer grade corkscrews are so dull that they shred the cap. And now they are coming with “serrated” cutters, which are even worse. Easy enough if you have a high end tool like yours. Not so easy with the stuff most of us have access to.
@scaper84 жыл бұрын
I've got one that has a rather dull "serrated" blade too. I thought that it would be terrible. Funnily enough, the serrated seems ti cut better that the generally dull consumer grade ones. Now, a good professional one; that it is still a distant second to.
@robertbrandywine6 жыл бұрын
So the outside hook is, I guess, a bottle cap remover?
@scaper84 жыл бұрын
Yes. These kind of corkscrews are sometimes referred to as a "bartender's friend" and/or a "waiter's corkscrew" because of how, with one, you can open most things in a bar. (Pro tip; depending on the exact design, the end of the one-piece arm can sometimes be slid under the pop tab of cans to help lift them up too!)
